Oct. 7, 2017Bearcats get needed 2-1 win at Clearfield
Huntingdon came back from Clearfield Tuesday with a much-needed win. The Bearcats were able to take a 2-1 decision.
The win ends a three-game slide where the ‘Cats (6-4-1, 6-2-1 ML) were shut out in each contest. Sydney Sellers scored the game-winning goal in the first half.
“Overall it was a wellplayed game,” Huntingdon head coach Michael Armstrong said. “We possessed the ball and moved it around, playing our game.”
Huntingdon outshot the Bison 24-5. Jordan Hawkins and Rachel Gwinn played key roles in helping distribute the ball. Kylie Glorioso moved to center-mid, with Heather Gutshall out wide, and did well putting pressure on the Bison and creating shots.
Alayna Ryan was a good challenge for the Bearcat defense to contain. She put Clearfield up 1-0 with 24:32 left in the first half.
An own goal by the Bison tied the game 1-1. The Bearcats went ahead 2-1 seconds before intermission. A blocked shot came out to her feet, Sellers shielded, turned and struck a shot to the low far post for her third goal of the year.
Huntingdon controlled the majority of the match and had all the shots it could ask for, they just were going right to goalkeeper Hayley Moore.
“It’s nice to get in the win column and what we needed to get going in the right direction,” Armstrong remarked.
Huntingdon is back at Detwiler Field Thursday to face Tyrone.
