Varsity Head Coach - Roger Herto

This season Coach Herto returns for his 30th season coaching PIAA high school girls' basketball, and his third as the Head Coach of the Lady Huskies.  After 26 years coaching in the Mifflin County School District, Coach Herto spent the 2011-12, and 2012-13 seasons on the sidelines at Bellefonte High School as the Head Coach of the Lady Raiders, before returning in the Spring of 2013 to MCHS. This will be his 26th year at the Varsity level, having three years with the Lady Huskies, two were at Bellefonte, the previous 19 were at the former Indian Valley High School, while his first two came at the former Kishacoquillas High School in Reedsville.  He also spent three seasons at the JV level, one at Kish and two at IV.  In addition, since Jr. High Girls' Basketball used to be in the fall, Herto also spent 22 seasons as a Jr. High Head Coach between IV and Kish.  Coming into this, his 30th season, Herto has coached 1,071 PIAA games at all levels combined, with his players compiling a record of 653 wins and 418 losses.  His team's best Varsity finish came in 2001 at Indian Valley when the Lady Warriors advanced to the Final Four in the state.  That season was the best finish of any female sports team in the now closed school's 23 year history.

Herto was born and raised in Reedsville, and is a 1980 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School, and a 1984 graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio.  At BG, Herto earned a Bachlelor of Arts degree in Communications concentrating in Radio/TV/Film.  He was part of the original staff at WCHX Radio FM-105.5 in Lewistown when they hit the airwaves back in 1987.  At CHIX 105, Herto was an On-Air Personality, Sales Representative and Sports Director, where he was twice honored as the best "play-by-play" announcer in the state by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters. In 1999 Herto made a career change into education and earned his teaching degree at Susquehanna University.  After spending one year at Indian Valley Middle School teaching 7th grade English, he moved to the high school where he has spent the past twelve years.  He currently enjoys being the Media Teacher at Mifflin County High School, where he runs the school's Cable TV Station known as MCTV-Channel 14, and is also in the process of getting his Masters Degree in Education Administration from the University of Scranton.

Coach Herto and his wife Sandy celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary this year. Sandy is also in the field of education, and currently teaches 2nd Grade at Indian Valley Elementary School.  The couple have three daughters, Sammy (24), Page (22) and Ali (18). While his passion is now coaching the Lady Huskies, he's also a big Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Vikings fan.
