Local basketball fans will have a full slate of action this weekend, as the high school winter sports season gets under way today with tip-off tournaments throughout the area.

Varsity, junior varsity and junior high boys and girls teams will visit Mifflin County for the Husky Club Tip-Off Challenge, with games at both the high school and junior high gymnasiums.

Today's schedule for the Husky Challenge is filled exclusively with girls varsity action as Southern Huntingdon and Bellefonte fill the first time slot at 5 p.m. Juniata then kicks off its season with a game against Central Mountain at 6:30 p.m. and Mifflin County takes the prime 8 p.m. slot against Williamsport. All games will be played at the high school gym.

Saturday, the Mifflin County JV girls will begin play at the high school gym with a 2:30 p.m. matchup against Williamsport. The Juniata girls varsity will have its second game of the challenge at 5:30 p.m. against Bellefonte, the Mifflin County girls varsity and Central Mountain will square off at 7 p.m. and the Mifflin County boys varsity will complete the Husky Challenge with an 8:30 p.m. game against Central Mountain.

To make up for the loss of its game today, the boys varsity team will host New Hope Charter Academy Jan. 11.

Saturday's other games at the Husky Challenge will be held at the junior high gym. Mifflin County games include the junior high girls B team against Milton-Hershey and Milton at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. respectively, the junior high girls A team against the same two opponents at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and the JV boys versus Central Mountain at 6 p.m.
