Huskies can't hang with CV

December 11, 2013

From staff reports , Lewistown Sentinel MECHANICSBURG - Roger Herto's welcome to the Mid-Penn Conference is a trial by fire, and his Huskies team got burned Tuesday in their Commonwealth Division opener at Cumberland Valley. The Eagles used a 28-point fourth quarter as the spark to fuel a 76-38 girls basketball win.

"I knew we were opening with the best team in the conference," Herto said. But his opinion of his own team changed not one iota. "I feel no different about them tonight than I did Saturday night when we won by 60-some points," he said. "I like what I have in that locker room." The season is about growth, he said, with the goal of being what Cumberland Valley is.

This game went against Mifflin County early. Both teams had their whole bench on the floor before it was over, but all of the Eagles were in the scoring column.

"When the game started it was obvious right away that we were a four speed and they have a fifth gear," Herto said. "Jessa Wright kept us in the ballgame a little bit early. But they were suprerior to us tonight." He said the Huskies also had unexpected turnover problems going one-on-one, which will have to be addressed.

In the JV game, Cumberland Valley took a 40-33 victory off the floor. Ali Herto scored eight for Mifflin County.

The Huskies (1-1, 0-1) host Central Dauphin Friday.
