Defensive Let Down in Harrisburg
Dec. 9, 2015
Harrisburg 83, Mifflin County 53
HARRISBURG - Defensive woes plagued Mifflin County as the Huskies dropped their Commonwealth Division girls basketball opener, 83-53, to Harrisburg Tuesday.
Mifflin County's offensive leaders did their job, with Jessa Wright pouring in 21 points and Maggie Wilson adding 18.
They had to contend with Providence recruit Tysha Brown, who had 32 points - four from 3-point land - all off the floor.
"Brown's tremendous, there's no doubt about that," Mifflin County coach Roger Herto said. But, he explained, "I told the girls Monday ... I would give our defense a 'C' after those first two wins. That 'C' really showed up tonight."
Along with a defense he said was not good as a team, he felt that his team showed it did not have the level of conditioning Harrisburg displayed. It made the Huskies tired as the game went on.
"We didn't shoot the ball particualrly well (because of tiredness)," he said. "We have to be better than that.
"I really like this team. I think this team can do it."
In the JV game, Jamie Mahigel's 16 points helped the locals to a 37-32 victory.
Mifflin County (2-1, 0-1) hosts Carlisle Friday.
