Pennsylvania vs Maryland All-Star Game
Apr. 8, 2016
Wright & Wilson - Play for Team Pennsylvania
April 8, 2016, Lewistown Sentinel Save |
HARRISBURG - Local girls basketball standouts Maggie Wilson and Jessa Wright will get to suit up together one last time on the same team Saturday in a postseason event at Harrisburg Christian.
This time it's not as Lady Huskies, but as Team Pennsylvania in the annual Pennsylvania vs. Maryland All-Star Classic sponsored by PAHoops.org.
Wilson and Wright are two of five Mid-Penn Commonwealth seniors that are on the Pennsylvania squad. They will be joined by State College standout Kyla Irwin, Central Dauphin's Tori Lesko and Harrisburg's Tysha Brown. One of the coaches of the team is also a representative from the Commonwealth Division, Cumberland Valley's Bill Wolf.
The game features players that have all committed to play college basketball. Maggie Wilson will be playing at Susquehanna University this fall under coach Jim Reed. Susquehanna plays in the Division III Landmark Conference against the likes of the University of Scranton, Moravian and Juniata College.
"I know coach Reed and the type of players he likes," Mifflin County coach Roger Herto said. "Maggie's commitment and effort make her a good fit at Susquehanna."
Jessa Wright also will be playing Division III basketball next season at Mount Aloysius College for coach Kristi Little-Kaack. The Lady Mounties are a member of the Allegheny Mountain Athletic Conference, which features teams such as Penn State Altoona and LaRoche College.
"I coached against coach Little-Kaack when she was a player at Altoona," Herto noted. "She was a real competitor, and I think she will be pleased with the energy and physicality that Jessa will bring to their program."
The Pennsylvania vs. Maryland girls game tips off at 7:15 p.m, with the boys all-star game to follow at 8:30. While these are the two marquee games of the night, there are four other games scheduled earlier that day and one on Friday.
In fact, Friday's Keystone vs. Mid-Atlantic game features local players on both sides of the court. Mifflin County's Jack Packer is on the Keystone squad. Mid-Atlantic players include Juniata's Justin Mingle, and Kevin Sheaffer and Seth Ferguson from Greenwood.
And Juniata's Rylee Duck is on the PA West girls roster for the East-West game slated for Saturday afternoon.
