Player of the Year "Jamie Chapin Memorial Award"

Dedicated to the memory of a North Florida lacrosse pioneer who demonstrated skill, passion and integrity during his much too short time with us- Click Here.

Jamie Chapin

Since 2011 we have been recognizing one local boys lacrosse player as our High School Player of the Year from Northeast Florida. Throughout the fall and into the 2017 season we will be evaluating the area's top stars and adding players who should warrant consideration. Below you will find our preliminary list and the 2017 winner based on a survey of coaches, past performances, and my personal evaluation.

It has been an honor for me to recognize the Jamie Chapin Award winner for the North Florida Lacrosse Player of the Year. This is not to be confused with other honors chosen by various lacrosse organizations in our state. This award is chosen by me. I do consult many people who are involved in lacrosse in Northeast Florida to get their input and to hear their arguments for various candidates but in the end, I choose the person that I believe is the Player of the Year based on their performance, skill, style, and heart…,the player who exemplifies the spirit of Jamie Chapin, a pioneer of high school lacrosse in our area as a former player at Nease, who passed away much too soon. Review the past award winners and you will see a list of some of the best players ever to step on the field in our region. Congratulations on this year's finalists. It is always difficult to limit the list, but it my honest assessment of the very best.

Thanks,

Ray Carnicelli

2017 Player of the Year
Gray King- Bolles

Congratulations to Gray King, the 2017 Jamie Chapin Memorial Award Winner as the Lax904 Player of the Year. The Bolles senior demonstrated passion, leadership, and a consistent high level of skill throughout the season and into the North Region Final. Regarded as one of the best prep lacrosse players in the state of Florida, Gray King is a multi-dimensional talent who piled up goals while being counted upon for face-offs, clearing, defending, and quarterbacking the offense. To paraphrase various opposing coaches:

No one is more valuable to a team than King. To face-off, run the offense both as a feeder and a shooter and be one of the most effective players in the riding game is impressive.

He will make any team he plays on twice as good.

King is by far the most dangerous player I have seen this year.

We had all the answers for our other opponents’ offenses, we had none for King.

He matched our best players in three facets of our game against him.

If I was starting a team, I would pick him first.

On and off of the field, Gray King has been a leader for the Bolles Bulldogs. His conditioning, athletic skill, work ethic and energy are only matched by his lacrosse talent and desire. King’s attributes were infectious to his team and he led them further than most would have expected, falling just short of a State Final Four, losing on the road to Lake Mary by a score of 9-8. No player better exemplifies the spirit of Jamie Chapin.

Once again, I would like to congratulate all of the players on our 2017 Watch List, our 2017 Finalists, and 2017 Player of the Year, Gray King.
