New Player Information
The Fort Bend Ranger Lacrosse team has been in existence for 14 years. The first 8 years, only a Varsity squad was fielded. The last 6 years a Middle School team has been in existence as well. 3 years ago, a Ranger Junior Varsity team was started last year we added a 7th grade team. We feel sure that we will add a 5th and 6th grade combined team for this year.
The Ranger teams start practice when school starts and the reason is twofold. First, several of our players use Lacrosse practices for school PE credit and the start of our practices coincides with the beginning of the school year to accommodate this need. The 2nd reason is to allow our new players an opportunity to expand their skills to a level of competency that will make the games more fun for them and will also allow our teams to be more competitive. The actual Lacrosse season starts in February and lasts to the latter part of April. We will be playing in a few tournaments prior to the season in an effort to get our boys some game experience before the games start to count in the standings.
The Fort Bend Ranger Lacrosse Club is an independent club team. We are almost totally funded by players dues which are estimated to be $425 per player per year. Each player is required to furnish his own equipment. For non-goalie players, the required equipment consists of helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, glove and a stick. A mouth piece is also required. An athletic cup is not required, but it is STRONGLY recommended. A goalie's equipment consists of a chest protector, gloves, stick, mouth piece and a cup. The cup is required for goalie play. There are 3 non-goalie positions on the field and the type stick a players needs is based on which one of those positions he chooses. We don't tell any player what position he will play, but different athletic types lend themselves better to different positions and after a few practices, we will better be able to steer a player to a position that will allow him to be more successful and allow him more playing time. The cost of Lacrosse equipment should be approximately $300 per player. This equipment should last a player several years. Lacrosse equipment can be purchased at Play It Again Sports on Hwy 6 or Soccer 4All in Missouri City. Play It Again Sports will give you a 10% discount if you tell them you are with the Rangers.
Financial assistance available for those who qualify.
