Walpole Youth Wresting is designed for boys and girls in grades K-8 and provides solid coaching in a safe and supportive environment. The coaching for this program is geared to the child’s age and level of experience. Every child practices and is matched with opponents who are of similar size and experience. Above all, the program promotes balanced competition, fun and growth as an athlete.
As a sport, wrestling helps develop agility, coordination, flexibility, balance, self-esteem, self-discipline, sportsmanship, and a strong work ethic.
Every season Walpole Youth Wrestlers have the option of participating in various tournaments. Below you will find the registration websites and fees associated with each. Please check with your wrestler's coach to determine if your son/daughter is ready for tournament wrestling.
Practices will begin on Monday, 11/27 for the K-4 group and Tuesday, 11/28 for grades 5-8. We practice in the high school wrestling room located in the basement of the high school, next to the weight room. Please arrive by 5:45pm to check-in.
What your wrestler will need:
T-shirt, shorts, wrestling shoes, wrestling head gear and a water bottle. No pockets, snaps or jewelry. Please make sure finger nails are trimmed. WYW t-shirts and shorts will be ordered after the first week of practice. These are special ordered so correct size is important.
Coaches for the 2017-2018 Season:
Please see the Coaches & Volunteer section of our website for an updated list of this year's staff.
Schedule and Calendar:
We are working on setting up our schedule and are close to complete. You will receive an invite from Michelle Dowd to join or shared calendar. Please accept this invitation as it is the best way to keep up on changes, adjustments and new events that get added throughout the season.
Inclimate Weather & School Closings:
If there is no school or an early release, we will not have practice that day.
“The most important lesson sports can teach you is that it is better to fail than to not risk failure at all. Success makes you no better than the person you are next to. Our legacy will be carried on by the kind of people we become.” - Gabe Dean (2 time NCAA Wrestling Champion)
Walpole Youth Wrestling is run by former NCAA All-American, Steve Hile. Steve brings over 35 years of wrestling experience to the program.
