Nov 8, 2014 - Wimbledon Park - 3rd in the Bowls England 'Club of the Year' 2014

An amazing season was topped off by the announcement from Bowls England that Wimbledon Park had been selected as South of England winners and overall 3rd place in the National 'Club of the Year' 2014. A tremendous testament to the hard work of club members in welcoming visitors to the bowls green in a year which again saw around 70 visitors attending the club's taster sessions with 15 of them going on to join the club as new members.

The achievement followed the announcement that Luke had been named in the Mayor of London's Awards as winner of the Under 25 'My Community' catagory for his volunteering work which included assisting with the club's taster sessions as well as with the scouts and his church. With six sets of finalists in today's District Finals, Wimbledon Park were the most represented club - a terrific achievement.

The second session was the inter-club Men's Pairs with Barry and Neil seeking to retain the title they won in 2013 and Luke and Jonathan seeking to be the youngest ever winners. At the end of a close contest, which was a credit to all involved, it was Barry and Neil who just held on to win 22 - 16 and so become the first pair ever to retain the title; Luke and Jonathan becoming the youngest ever runners-up! In the third session Jonathan finished as runner-up in the Champion of Champions to Dee (Wandilea), losing 8 - 21, Barry was runner-up in the Over 60s Men's Singles, losing to Jim (Merton Park) by 14 - 21 and Neil and Pauline (Mitcham) were runners-up in the Mixed Pairs to Chris (Colliers Wood) and John (South London), losing 13 - 28.
