Jul 6, 2015 - District Pairs - Down to the Wire!

Barry/Neil began defending the Wimbledon and District Men's Pairs title that they won in 2013 and in 2014 with a match against South London this evening. With their opponents playing tidily throughout and the opposition skip converting a number of ends, the home pair needed some big counts one of which came on the third end when they picked up a count of 7. By end 10, Barry/Neil led 15 - 10 only to see the lead reduced to a single shot by end 19 where they led 19 - 18. A single on the 20th end left their opponents needing two shots to tie and three to win with one end remaining. When the bowls had finished and the measuring had been concluded South London had taken a single to leave Barry/Neil 20 - 19 winners.

Jul 5, 2015 - What a Wonderful Day at Wimbledon Park

This afternoon Wimbledon Park was the place to be for celebrations. First at 1pm we welcomed County Men's President, John Tucker, to the green as he presented the club with their Bowls England award for being Regional Winners and 3rd place in England in the 2014 'Club of the Year' Competition. This is a tremendous achievement for Wimbledon Park as they became the frst club in Surrey to achieve this award.

At 3pm, the club welcomed the Surrey Ladies' President, Zoe Hollins, and her presidential team, who honoured Dilys Rogers for her commitment to bowls in Surrey with the Surrey Ladies Bowls Association's 'Loyal Service Award'. Dilys, who has been a loyal member of Wimbledon Park for the past 34 years also had her 90th birthday celebrated by club members. (Photos are displayed in the 2015 Gallery, Award Winners Section).

Out on the green club members played the early rounds of the Handicap Pairs Competition. At the end of the Round-Robin format Anne and Neil topped the table with 15 points, closely followed by Gay and Ralph on 13 points (shot difference -5), Cherry and Barry on 13 points (shot difference +8) and Helen and Luke on 13 points (shot difference +8). With two teams sharing second place a one-end, one-bowl shoot out took place with Helen/Luke edging out Cherry/Barry to book their place in the final.

In the evening Neil played Wandilea in the Wimbledon and District Mixed Singles, booking his place in the quarter-finals with a 21 - 8 win.

A tremendous day for the club - thank you to everyone for their continued support.

Jul 4, 2015 - Away Win in the Weekend League

This afternoon, which turned out to be a very hot and sunny one, Wimbledon Park travelled to Colliers Wood for their latest league match. Ralph, Helen, Pete and Martin were the first rink to finish and having won 15 ends to 6, came off with a 27 - 13 victory. Luke, Betty, Jonathan and Neil managed to win 13 ends to 8, but it still proved not to be enough as they lsot 16 - 19. Gay, Anne, Vernon and Barry started strongly leading 12 - 4 after 11 ends. The second half however saw a reversal of fortunes as Colliers Wood won 9 of the remaining 10 ends to secure a 16 - 13 win. Match result, a win, 6 - 4 (56 shots to 48).

Jul 3, 2015 - Second Success in the District Singles

Following Jonathan's success last week in the District Singles, this evening Neil also played Heathfield in the Men's Singles. Level after 6 ends at  8 - 8, Neil opened up a 6 shot margin to lead 16 - 10 at 11 ends, only for his opponent to win the next 5 ends to go ahead 18 - 16. The final three ends however went to Neil and he just edged home 21 - 18.

Jul 2, 2015 - Hard Won Points in the Mid-week Triples

This afternoon Wimbledon Park took on league leaders Raynes Park in the Mid-week triples. Playing away, due to the tennis, Alf, Betty and Barry found themselves 1 - 12 down after 5 ends before an amazing run saw them win 12 of the remaining 13 ends to seal the game 21 - 15. Ron, Vernon and Jonathan were 0 - 11 after 4 ends, before rallying to trail 8 - 11 after 10 ends. Unfortunately that was as close as it got with Raynes Park going on to win 27 - 10. Match result 2 - 6 (31 shots to 42).

Jul 1, 2015 - What a Wonderful Wednesday!

The hottest day of the year and two significant events took place in the Wimbledon Park 2015 season. Firstly this afternoon we hosted Riversdale Primary School for a taster session as requested by the Wimbledon Foundation who had provided us with a grant to support the schools' work. A huge thank you to Anne, Gay, Angela (who cancelled a number of work commitments to be available for the session) and to Barry for coordinating the event. It was wonderful to hear that the children had a good time and that the representative from the Wimbledon Foundation reported so positively about the work on the green. Wonderful - thank you!

This evening the day continued positively as Jonathan played in the quarter-final of the Surrey Unbadged Singles over at Purley Bury. Playing Southwark Park on a very quick green, Jonathan outbowled his opponent to book his semi-final place with a 21 - 7 victory. A massive thank you to Luke for taking Jonathan to Purley Bury and to Barry for his support - the less said about Neil trying to walk to the wrong bowls green the better!

Jun 29, 2015 - The District Competitions Get Underway!

Congratulations to Jonathan who played his first match in the Wimbledon and District Men's Singles away at Heathfield this evening. Playing well from the beginning Jonathan booked his place in the last 16 with a 21 - 8 win.
