Sep 5, 2015 - Club Finals - First Day Update

Despite the weather being overcast and somewhat chilly there was a warm atmosphere on the green today as day 1 of the club finals took place. The first session saw Cherry beat Sabrina 18 - 7 in the Ladies' Two Woods, Gay beat Betty 21 - 5 in the Ladies' Handicap and Neil beat Luke 21 - 15 in the Club Handicap. After the second session, Vernon had beaten Barry 17- 10 in the Club Two Woods and Pete had beaten Neil 41 - 37 in the Three Wood Yardstick. At the end of the round robin Junior Championship Anne B will line up aganst Derek in tomorrow's final, both of them having topped their respective groups. The final session saw Gay beat Anne B 60 - 42 in the Ladies' 3 - 2 - 1.

A huge thank you to everyone who played so well today, to Ann H, Barry, Betty, Luke, Maggie, Pete and Vernon for marking and to Jonathan and Martin for both umpiring and marking. A great day with half the club in attendance, see you tomorrow at 11am for day two!

Sep 4, 2015 - 3rd District Final Place Secured

This evening Barry, Martin and Neil played the semi-final of the District Men's Triples at Wandilea. Playing against Streatham Park the game went well for the Wimbledon Park trio who were defending the title they won in 2014. After 9 ends they were 21 - 3 up, before Neil twice promoted his opponents' bowls to drop two singles. At 14 ends the game was conceded with WPBC advancing to the final with a 23 - 9 victory. Thanks to Pete for his support this evening.

Sep 3, 2015 - It Was Not To Be...

This evening at Wandilea, Rose (Magdalen Park), Luke and Jonathan played Heathfield for a place in the District final of the Mixed Triples. Unfortunately the opposition proved to be far more consistent and the game was conceded after 13 ends with the score at 5 - 20.

Today's result leaves Wimbledon Park with finalists in the Mixed Singles, Mixed Pairs and a guarantee of another finalist in the Men's Pairs, following Sunday's re-arranged semi-final. There is also a chance of a fourth final place tomorrow in the Men's Pairs.

Please note there will not be a taster session this Saturday morning due to the club finals. The next taster session will be 11-12.30 on Saturday 12th September.

Sep 2, 2015 - Latest Mid-week League Result - Another Close Result

This afternoon Wimbledon Park hosted Merton in the latest mid-week league match. Betty, Vernon and Barry put up a valiant effort before succombing 11 - 19. Hector, Luke and Jonathan also fought hard before winning their game 21 - 15. Match result 2 - 6 (32 shots to 34).

Sep 1, 2015 - It Isn't Over Until ...

This evening Vanessa (Mitcham) and Neil played Streatham Park for a place in the final of the District Mixed Pairs. In a game which started in heavy rain, Vanessa and Neil opened up a 5 - 0 lead after four ends and promptly dropped a five to bring the scores level. Losing seven of the next eight ends to some very tidy draw bowling left the scores at 6 - 18 after 14 ends. Three ends later the score was 10 - 19, but the ends were ticking by rather too quickly until on the 18th end they picked up a five. Next end an unfortunate flick on the jack saw them drop a single before a three on the 20th end brought Vanessa and Neil within two shots of Streatham Park. Some great drawing on the last end in the dark saw them pick up the three required to book their place in the final 21 - 20... Phew!

A huge thank you to all of the Mitcham bowlers who braved the rain to give their support and to the Streatham Park bowlers for the wonderful spirit in which the game was played!

Aug 30, 2015 - Latest League Match - Tough Going

This afternoon Wimbledon Park hosted Mitcham in the latest league match. Playing with only 10 players the afternoon was always going to be a challenging one. Anne S, (making her league debut), Sabrina and Barry did fantastically well to keep the game as tight as they did, only trailing by two up until the 17th end. Unfortunately 10 shots were conceded in the final four ends to leave the score at 13- 25. Cherry, Rosalind (playing in only her second league match), George and Martin managed to win 8 ends, but went down 13 - 30. Betty, Gay and Neil found themselves 10 - 18 behind after 16 ends, but picked up 8 shots over the final 5 ends to  tie the game at 18 - 18. Match result 1 - 9 (44 shots to 73). A big thank you to all those who were able to play today to fulfil the fixture and a special thank you to Rosalind for all her help before and after the game!

Aug 29, 2015 - What a Great Start to the Bank Holiday Weekend!

This morning Wimbledon Park took on the 2014 Champions, Belmont, in the semi-final of the District Top 10 Competition. With a place in the final at stake, all games were close. Neil was the first to finish in the Singles posting a 21 - 16 win away at Belmont. Back at Wimbledon Park, Luke and Jonathan were never behind, opening up a 13 - 6 lead after 12 ends. 7 of the last 9 ends went to Belmont, who squeezed to a 21 - 17 win by picking up four shots on the final end.  In the Triples, Cherry, Vernon and Barry led 14 - 12 after 15 ends; picking up 8 shots in the final three ends brought them to a 22 - 12 win. Back at Belmont the fours saw George, Sabrina, Pete and Martin win 12 ends to 9 to see them to a  21 - 14 victory. Match result - a win by 81 shots to 63 and a place in the final for the fourth year running!
