Sep 2, 2014 - What an Evening!

This evening Barry played the semi-final of the District Men's Over 60s Singles. Playing Battersea Park, at Heathfield BC, Barry very generously gave away a few shots to his opponent during the first few ends before taking control to win the game 21 - 8. That made Wimbledon Park's 3rd District Final but... there was more to come!

In the semi-final of the District Mixed Pairs, Pauline Bond, playing as a late replacement for Rachel who could not get away from her new job in time to play, and Neil played last year's champions from Southey, also at Heathfield BC. Playing tidily Pauline/Neil opened up a 10 - 1 lead only to drop a six a few ends later to lead 13 - 12. As darkness took hold they managed to see out the game winning 21 - 17 to make Wimbledon Park's 4th District Final! Thanks to Brian W for his support this evening as well as to Babs and Sid for theirs.

Best wishes to Luke and Jonathan in Wednesday's Men's Pairs, to Barry, Ossie, Martin and Neil in Thursday's Men's Fours and to Barry and Neil in Friday's Men's Pairs.

Aug 31, 2014 - Surrey Junior Successes!

Well done to Rachel and the Surrey Junior Ladies who beat Kent this morning in the semi-final of the National Double Rink  competition to set up the final against Sussex this afternoon. Unfortunately for Surrey, Sussex were on top form with their England skips and Commonwealth Gold Medallist, Sian Honnor playing for them. Congratulations to Surrey though, Runners-up for the second year running! The achievement was surpassed by the Junior Men where Surrey beat Worcestershire in the final to win the National Title. Well done Surrey!

Aug 30, 2014 - What a Comeback!

This afternoon Wimbledon Park Ladies visited Heathfield Ladies for a two-triple match - the hospitality was great and the threatening rain kept away leading to a close contest on the green. With the home side getting off to a flying start on both rinks Wimbledon Park found themselves with some work to do. Mary, Margaret and Betty produced a second half to be proud of, closing the gap but eventually just losing 11 - 16. Sabrina, Helen and Ann H also found themselves with some work to do but picking up a 4 and a 3 on consecutive ends changed the momentum in their favour and they went on to win 16 - 13. Thanks to Heathfield for a lovely afternoon!

Aug 30, 2014 - Surrey Beat 3 Time Champions Devon in the Junior Double Rink

After a comfortable 61 - 12 win against Durham this morning, Surrey's quarter-final opponents in the Amy Rose National Junior Doubke Rink competition were Devon. Devon, featuring two Commonwealth Gold Medallists as their skips and having won the competition for the last three years were going to be tough opponents but after a fantastic match Surrey won on Rachel's rink by 20 - 19 and on the other rink by 21 - 15! Kent await in the morning!!

Aug 29, 2014 - What an Afternoon!

Luke and Jonathan played the quarter-final of the District Men's Pairs this afternoon against last year's runners-up from Heathfield. After close early exchanges Luke and Jonathan settled well to the task in hand moving away from 4 - 4 after 4 ends to open up a lead. Continuing to draw well and picking up a five on the 18th end, their opponents shook hands with the score at 25 - 11. Wimbledon Park's second semi-final place in this event and ninth in all district competitions!

Up at Leamington, Rachel was playing two for the Surrey Under-31 team as they took on Cornwall for a place in the last 16 of the Amy Rose Inter-county competition. Playing in testy conditions, both in terms of a strong cross wind and rain, Surrey won on both rinks to record a 41 shots to 27 win securing their place against Durham in the morning.
