This evening Jonathan, playing in a pair with Daisy Leach from Magdalen Park, took on Nicki and Kim from Wandilea in the district Mixed Pairs. Playing catch up from the start Daisy/Jonathan found themselves 1 - 7 down at 5 ends and 4 - 11 down at 7 ends. With three ends left the lead was seven shots but dropping a 1, 2 and crucial 4 on the final end saw the match level at 20 - 20. Jul 20, 2014 - Ladies' Championship Afternoon

On a hot and humid afternoon, with storms passing close by, the ladies played the early rounds of the Club Championship. At the end of the quarter-finals Betty had edged out Dilys to book her place in the semi-final. Margaret and Mary had a real tussle with Margaret pipping Mary 21 - 19. Ann H played Anne B in the third quarter-final with Ann H getting the upper hand, whilst the fourth quarter-final saw Helen booking her semi-final place after her win against Sabrina.

The first semi-final saw Betty through to the final, having beaten Margaret 21 - 8. The second semi-final, between Ann H and Helen, will be played at a later date. A huge thank you to Martin who, after coming to watch the matches, kindly marked three games. Congratulations to all participants and to Helen for organising the afternoon.

Jul 19, 2014 - Another Close Encounter in the League

This afternoon saw Wimbledon Park visiting Merton for the latest league match. Ossie, Mary, Vernon and Neil found the going tough and after 9 ends were 2 - 13 down. A brief rally saw them level 4 ends later before Merton won 7 of the last 8 ends to win 23 - 17. Hector, Betty, Pete and Martin started strongly leading 8 - 0 at 6 ends and 17 - 1 at 12 ends. This time it was Merton who fought back picking up 9 shots in the last 8 ends to leave Wimbledon Park the winners by 23 - 11. Charlie, Sabrina, Jonathan and Barry also got off to a slow start and were 2 - 9 down after 5 ends, a big push in the middle of the game saw them only two adrift at 18 ends with the score at 16 - 18. As the last end was played Wimbledon Park were 1 ahead in the match but after 11 bowls had been played held a match winning four shots only for Jonathan to get the shot which Barry defended to see Wimbledon Park lose the game 17 - 21 but win the match 6 - 4 (57 shots to 55).

Jul 17, 2014 - Oh so close!

Neil hosted Nigel Finley, Streatham Park, this morning in the Wimbledon and District Men's Singles - after 13 ends Neil was 0 - 17 down, with Nigel out-bowling him in all departments. A brief rally saw Neil crawl back to 5 shots to avoid a complete white-wash, but that was as far as he managed to get, with Nigel deservedly winning 21-5. Not quite a duck, but oh so close!

Jul 17, 2014 - Not Quite This Year

This afternoon Rachel travelled to Windlesham to play last year's National Over 55 Singles semi-finalist, Steph Elgar, in the Area Final of the National Champion of Champions Competition. A close contest ensued, with both bowlers playing a very tidy drawing game; it was Steph however who opened up a 10 - 1 lead, only for Rachel to get right back in to the game at 9 - 11. Steph continued to play the 'big bowls' better than Rachel, twice getting shot bowl when she was three down and four down. At the end of the game it was Steph that had booked her place at Leamington, as the Surrey representative in the last 16 in England, having won 21 - 12.
