Jul 30, 2017 - THERE IS A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN

Yale High School has announced former Peck defensive coordinator Scott Brown as its new football coach.

Brown was instrumental in starting the Yale branch of the Thumb Area Football League program and also works at Yale High School as an economics and sociology teacher.

Brown is coming over from 8-man football after leading the Peck defense the past two years. Yale has struggled with inconsistency and failed to make the playoffs each of the past two seasons.

"I'm very excited," Brown, 48, said. "We have a lot of great kids coming back. As a teacher in the building, I know the students already. Many of them I coached at junior high before I went over to Peck.

"I think the last couple of seasons they had hard non-league schedules and had a few bad breaks. They have been competitive. I don't have to rebuild. The program is solid. I need to take it forward. Coaching TAFL really helped me get to know the kids and the community better. Now those parents are the current parents and their children are the players on the varsity team."

Brown said the Bulldogs will be known for their defensive mindset.

"I want my teams to be known for being aggressive and attacking on defense," Brown said. "We are working out what offense we will run, but it will be multiple formation. Our goal for next season will be the same as any other season. We want to try to win the Blue Water Area Conference.

"If our first goal happens, the playoffs will take care of itself. The BWAC is tough and there are several perennial powers."
