Jun 22, 2018 - Senior Ladies Beaten By Strong Tempo Side In Championship

Ladies Intermediate Championship Quarter Final: Tempo 5-16 v 3-2 Belcoo

The Senior Ladies exited the Intermediate Championship to a strong Tempo side who have been operating in the Division above them all season. Belcoo though, worked tremendously hard for the hour and will have gained a lot from their efforts in this tie.

Tempo made a bright opening as they raced in for four early points before Belcoo managed their first of the evening as Collette Rice knocked over a free kick. Moments later a good move involving Aoibhinn Gallagher and debutant Aine Barrett seen Collette Rice break through on goal but under pressure her effort went wide.

Belcoo were doing their best defensively to put it up to their opponents, Aoibhinn Gallagher, Rachel O’Dolan, Aoife Keaney and Leona McNulty all pressed hard to deny their opposite numbers but three more points were added as Tempo moved 0-7 to 0-1 ahead by the midway stage of the half.

Up front Belcoo were looking lively when they managed to move forward, Eimear Higgins was showing well for ball in her first game of the season with the Under 16 pair of Ciana McGrath and Aine Barrett lively presences in the two corners. The O’Rahilly’s worked a great goal as Gallagher judged a ball well in the middle and broke out, her right wing pass was gathered by Aine Barrett who slipped it to Joan Rice, her crossfield ball was gathered by Ciana McGrath who fed the onrushing Collette Rice and she drove the ball into the roof of the net, reducing the deficit to three.

The goal served as notice to Tempo who moved swiftly downfield to register four more points. Belcoo had been finding it hard to get out, Lisa Stewart and Michelle Cullen showed well for kickouts as they tried to stem the flow of Tempo attacks. The O’Rahilly’s would respond coming to half time, a strong Arlene Furey burst seen her work the ball into Aine Barrett who was fouled, Collette Rice tapped over the free for 0-11 to 1-2 with just two minutes to play in the half, Belcoo were well in it. Two goals in the final two minutes of the half undid the good work though as Tempo now led by twelve.

The second half seen Belcoo to continue to improve, they moved the ball and competed much better in all sectors of the field. Tempo had a solid start to the half as they pushed further ahead with a goal and two points. The O’Rahilly’s though, stuck at it and were rewarded with a goal from Stacey McCabe on 43minutes, her shot from distance squeezed into the net via the post.

Another goal was to follow, Lisa Stewart had done well in the left corner before Collette Rice fastened onto the ball and fired a great strike into the top corner to bring it back to 3-13 to 3-2. Tempo though would register two scrappy goals before the finish, they were denied others by some good stops from Tara Feeley, who’d replaced the injured Chloe Dolan in the first half. The game was to end 5-16 to 3-2, Tempo advancing to the Semi Final.

Its back to League action for Belcoo as they play Enniskillen on Sunday week, 1st July. Training continues Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm.

Jun 21, 2018 - Club Eirne BBQ Details

Message From Club Eirne re BBQ:

Well as we tick rapidly towards our date with destiny on Sunday afternoon, I think we all need to get ourselves along to Brewster Park on Friday evening and get what will hopefully be a historic weekend for our County kicked off in style with plenty of craic and banter.

All the preparations are now in place and with the weather set fair (bring your sunscreen) this should be a real good event. We therefore encourage your attendance and that of your family, friends and Club or work colleagues as this event is open to everyone.

The BBQ will run from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and the cooking will be in the safe hands of Gavin and Nicky Cassidy from the Westville Hotel. There will be loads of food with steak, chicken, burgers, sausages and a range of salads on offer. We even have a wide range of preserves and chutneys available. During our meal, children from the local Comhaltas will provide some traditional background music.

After we are fed and watered our Chat Show will commence with top guests in attendance. Marty McGrath, Brendan Devenney and Dom Corrigan will impart plenty of tales and give their opinion on Sunday’s game with Rory Rafferty from Gaelic Weekly hosting the discussion. We also have a very special guest coming along to entertain us – more on that on Friday evening so you have to be there to see who our special guest is.

After all of that craic we then have one of Belnaleck’s finest with Vinci Wamsley coming on stage to entertain us into the wee small hours.

We will also have a raffle for some great prizes and we will auction a few prestigious items.

So all in all a great evening is in store for just £20 per adult and £7 for those U16 accompanied by a parent / guardian.

Jun 20, 2018 - Great U14 Girls Win As They Overturn Knockninny

U14 Girls Division 1: Belcoo 1-5 v 1-1 Knockninny

Belcoo U14 Girls overturned a 21 point defeat 9 days ago to claim a well deserved victory tonight in a low scoring affair at home to Knockninny. The O’Rahilly’s were much the hungrier side this evening, first to loose balls, snapping in bravely to lift possession while holding firm going through tackles. As a collective unit it was a fabulous display of sheer grit and determination to ensure they would claim their first league win tonight. That being said, they made hard work of it having held 80% of possession throughout the contest.

Played in tricky conditions as a cutting wind blew in from Lough MacNean it was the visitors who hit a goal on 5minutes with their first attack of the game. Belcoo were moving well even at this stage, Scarlett O’Connor and Sinead Barrett getting on an enormous amount of ball for the sky blues. Rhianne McGuinness at wing back won several frees having gained possession from turnovers before being fouled while Mikayla Maguire had a tremendous game on the other wing.

Belcoo worked a first score on 7minutes when Sinead Barrett drove in from the left wing after Ciara Nolan had did well in the corner to recycle possession. The O’Rahilly’s soon had another, Sam Martin had a powerful display in midfield and she feed Barrett for a well taken second score.

Abbie McGovern making a first start of the season applied good pressure in the corner to force a clearance straight to Scarlett O’Connor who set up Sinead Barrett for her third point of the half.

Defensively Niamh McAloon thwarted a good Knockninny move coming to half time, aided by Ciara McGuinness and Siofra McAloon who all drove out and didn’t hold back as they attacked any ball coming their way. Half time Belcoo 0-3 v 1-0 Knockninny.

The second half seen Belcoo dominate possession again, for the opening 15minutes they camped in the Knockninny half of the field. They didn’t not register a score however they were working tirelessly in all sectors. Niamh Cullen won back some great ball on the right side, Mikayla Maguire and Cara Gray made great runs down the two wings with Eve Barrett swooping onto some serious ball after her half time introduction.

Knockninny in a rare foray forward were to hit a point to lead with just six minutes to play. For all Belcoo’s endeavours, it was beginning to look like it wasn’t their night, Sinead Barrett burst through the middle and cracked a powerful drive against the crossbar before the danger was cleared. The visitors Aoibheann Donohoe and Ella Teague were in tremendous form at the back for their side cutting out a lot of dangerous looking Belcoo attacks.

Knockninny had another chance, Riona Keaney, at her sweeping keeper antics again, was swiftly off her line to claim the ball and set her team on their way. They would level it with 4minutes to go, Eimear Magee making a turnover in the Knockninny defence with the ball worked to Sinead Barrett, who kicked a great point from distance. 0-4 to 1-1.

The visitors pressed forward but great play by Siofra McAloon at the back set about the move of the night as Belcoo worked the ball down the right wing, Maguire, Gray, O’Connor and Barrett all involved before this evenings Captain, Ciara Nolan gathered the ball and drove in for a fine point to give her side the lead with two minutes to play. Rachel Nolan and Cara Gray had half chances at goals to put Belcoo further ahead as they pinned back the visitors late on.

With a minute it play the O’Rahilly’s got their just rewards for a great display. Scarlett O’Connor, who’d a great game, broke the tackle close to goal and found the top corner with a floated effort to see her side run out 1-5 to 1-1 winners.

It was an excellent showing and a superb turnaround from Monday week last when they went down to the same opposition on a 10-11 to 3-11 scoreline. Up next is a trip to Brewster Park on Monday night as they look to overturned a defeat to Enniskillen Gaels. Bus leaving 6.20pm.

Team (15 a side). Riona Keaney, Ciara McGuinness, Niamh McAloon, Siofra McAloon, Mikayla Maguire, Eimear Magee, Rhianne McGuinness, Sam Martin, Cara Gray, Sinead Barrett (0-4), Niamh Cullen, Ciara Nolan (0-1), Abbie McGovern, Rachel Nolan, Scarlett O’Connor (1-0).
