SENIORS: Lisnaskea 1-15 v 0-12 Belcoo

The league season ended in defeat for Belcoo but having secured their Division 1 status last week this game meant little to the O’Rahilly’s. Lisnaskea on the other hand knew a win would secure a league semi final spot and it was the home team who would begin the better.

The Emmetts raced into a 0-5 to nil lead by the 10th minute as Sean Keenan fisted an opening score before Conor Curran and a treble from Daniel Kille seen the hosts take a commanding lead early.

To their credit Belcoo got themselves back into the tie as Paul McGrath fired over a sideline ball before Seimi Rafferty clipped over a point and Philip Leonard also landed from the left wing to reduce the deficit to 2points.

Lisnaskea would regain a five point lead as Declan Leonard brought down Sean Keenan in the penalty area. Keenan picked himself up and confidently stroked home the penalty past Aidan Leonard in the Belcoo goals.

Paul McGrath would arrow over another sideline kick but Daniel Kille cancelled out this score before Belcoo had a great goal chance. Stephen Magurie’s direct ball into Jonathan Feeley was well taken, Feeley turned 14yards from goal and drove a shot which hit the crossbar and went over. From the next kickout another dangerous ball into the ‘skea penalty area was gathered by Feeley who was this time denied by a smart save from home goalkeeper Barry McGoldrick.

In the closing moments of the half Owen Mooney kicked a neat score to ensure his side led 1-7 to 0-5 at the break.

Belcoo were sharper to the ball upon the restart and Philip Leonard landed two good scores from play to bring just a goal between the sides. Aidy Little registered for Lisnaskea before Stephen Maguire bombed over a point from all of 50yards.

With the game now at 1-8 to 0-8 Belcoo had a dominant period of play without managing to score. Four bad wides were kicked before Lisnaskea broke down the right and Daniel Kille glided over a great point.

Lisnaskea took control of the tie with some quick scores as Paul Curran, Mark Little and Sean Keenan all registered points. Belcoo continued to create chances, Jonathan Feeley and Ciaran Flaherty hit points but with time running down Skea held a 1-11 to 0-10 lead.

Aidy Little, Kille and a placed ball from Keenan would see Skea over the finishing line while Jonathan Feeley hit two late points for Belcoo who’s season has come to an end.
