Seniors Beat Slaughtneil by 2points

ULSTER SENIOR LEAGUE GROUP A : Belcoo 1-9 v 1-7 Slaughtneil (Derry)
Belcoo secured a two point win over Slaughtneil at home on Sunday in their second outing of the Ulster Senior League. The hosts were never behind in the contest but having been pegged back in the second period against a strong breeze Belcoo finished strong with late points from Ronan Ferguson and Paul McGrath sealing the victory.
The O'Rahilly's aided by the elements in the opening period raced into a 4point lead. Stephen Maguire and Jonathan Feeley had registered free kicks before Ciaran Flaherty rifled over a long distance point. Feeley added another free as the hosts edged further ahead but the Derry side would eventually open their account with Conor Teague landing from play while Eamon Teague fired over a free kick.

Belcoo were playing some good football but Ronan Ferguson would capitalise on a poor kickout to extend his sides lead to three points again. Moments later a sweeping move forward seen Gavin Leonard put through on goal however the forward was hauled down just outside the penalty area and Stephen Maguire tapped over the resulting free from 16yards.
Ciaran Flaherty added another fine point to push Belcoo 0-7 to 0-2 ahead however the visitors would hit the net before the interval to reduce the deficit to just 2points at the break. Possession was turned over 40yards from goal and as Se McGinn drove through the middle he slipped in Sean Kelly who made no mistake firing low into the corner.
Belcoo introduced Seamus Conlon and Brian Cox into midfield and both played pivotal roles winning primary possession in the middle third of the field during the second period. The hosts dominated the early exchanges but where finding scores hard to come by against gale force wind. Having had a number of fruitless forays forward the missed chances enabled Slaughtneil get get back on level terms. Over 12minutes had elapsed from the resumption without a score of any kind before Paul Bradley and Chris Bradley tied the contest at 0-7 to 1-4.

Belcoo response was immediate, the ball was worked down the left by Kieran Leonard who fed Jonathan Feeley on the byline, the forward drove in along the line and sneaked the ball into the net, beating the 'keeper at the near post. It was a vital score for the Fermanagh side who were defensively sound over the remainder, restricting Slaughtneil to pressurised efforts from distance. Two frees from Paul Bradley and Eamon Teague were sandwiched between a brilliant point from play by Ronan Ferguson.
Another Paul Bradley free had the score at 1-8 to 1-7 as the game entered added time. Belcoo kept possession for a full two minutes before eventually working the ball forward for Paul McGrath to race through on goal and he elected to fist over an insurance point. From the resulting goal kick the referee brought an enthralling encounter to a close with Belcoo finishing up two points to the good.

The win keeps them in contention to qualify from the group. They travel to Ardara next Sunday before a final group game at home against Steelstown.
