Losing Start To Junior League
Apr. 6, 2013
Belcoo Juniors got their season off to a losing start as they suffered a seven point loss at home to Brookeboro on a fine Saturday evening. The visitors opening goal on 18minutes gave them a lead they would never relinquish as Belcoo's spirited attempts to claw their way back into the tie were in vain.
The first quarter seen very little scores as Brookeboro held a 0-3 to 0-2 lead. Aaron Dolan and Ronan Meehan accounting for the Belcoo points. A sweeping forward move yielded the Brookeboro goal before some quick fire points moved the visitors further clear. A late flurry of Belcoo scores before the interval from Darragh Timoney and a trio of Gary Maguire, one being a fine long range score from play had the half time score 1-6 to 0-6 in Brookeboro's favour.
The visitors would extend their lead early in the second half through some fine Damien Moane points and a wonderfully hit volleyed goal from a substitute. Belcoo however continued to clip over points as Darragh Timoney and two Gary Maguire frees had cut the deficit before Darragh Timoney registered a goal having found the top corner from close range.
It was now 2-10 to 1-9 at this stage but unfortunately a quickly taken free kick backfired on Belcoo and Brookeborough netted a third goal to holt the fight back. This goal took the wind out of the hosts and Moane would land three more great points from play to give the visitors a commanding lead at 3-13 to 1-9.
Belcoo to their credit continued to press forward. Dean McDermott pushed up from wing back to land a good point on 49minutes while Ronan Meehan drilled in a well hit goal on 54minutes. Aidy McCallion would register Belcoo's final point two minutes from time but it was Moane, who had an outstanding second period who landed the final scores of the contest to see his side run out winners by a score of 3-15 to 2-11.
