Second Defeat For Juniors
Apr. 13, 2013
Erne Cup Division 2 : Kinawley 2-7 v 0-11 Belcoo
Belcoo slipped to a second consecutive loss in Erne Cup Division 2 as they went down 2-7 to 0-11 in Kinawley on Saturday evening. The game swong in the home sides favour during the closing five minutes of the opening half as two quick goals undone Belcoo's good work.
Belcoo raced into a 4point lead by the 20th minute but Kinawley's late rally and double goal boost ensured the home side held a 5point half time lead.
Gary Maguire landed two early frees while Aaron Dolan knocked over a good score from play for three points in as many minutes. In a dominant opening quarter by Belcoo, corner forward James McGourty almost netted a goal but the woodwork came to Kinawley's rescue. Further points from Maguire and Dolan from play were sandwiched by Kinawley's sole point as Belcoo led 0-5 to 0-1.
The home team began to come into the contest and three swift points reduced the deficit to one before the impressive Ronan Meehan strode forward to clip over a neat score. Kinawley again registered a point before the two goal salvo in the dying moments of the half seen them enter the break 2-5 to 0-6 ahead.
Seamus Conlon was introduced at half time and he made a big impact for the visitors, a number of surging runs yielded must needed points while he was taking control of the middle sector of the field. Aided by Meehan and the steadying influence of Eoin Leonard at centre back Belcoo regained control of the contest.
Leonard, Dean McDermott and Aaron Dolan all registered points in the opening exchanges of the second half before Kinawley landed their first score. It was 2-6 to 0-9 for a period of time and still all to play for. Belcoo went the aerial route as they fired high ball into the square, Kinawley however were defending well and gathering loose possession with Belcoo only mustering a Damian Holleran point from a 10minute spell of pressure.
On the break Kinawley restored a three point lead before Seamus Conlon drilled over what proved to be the final score of the game 2minutes from time. For Belcoo Martin Corrigan was again the pick of the defence while Conlon and Meehan worked hard throughout.
