Juniors Win Well In Ederney
May. 5, 2013
JUNIORS: St. Joseph's 1-5 v 1-18 Belcoo
Belcoo picked up their first win of the season following an impressive second half display which seen them race away from St. Joseph's to win 1-18 to 1-5. The visitors would dominant proceedings throughout and hold a comfortable lead for the majority as they lifted themselves off the bottom of the table.
Aaron Dolan got the games opening score within a minute of the throw in with a well taken point from distance before Aidan McGrath landed a second Belcoo point after good work from Gary Maguire. The O'Rahilly's had burst from the blocks and an enterprising move involving Patrick Burns, Ronan Meehan and Aaron Dolan down the left wing ended with Damian Holleran firing over another point. Gary Maguire would tap over a free kick to see Belcoo into a four point lead with just seven minutes played.
It was all to easy for Belcoo at this stage but Ederney would eventually get things going and would lead by the midway stage of the half. John Doran opened his sides account with a placed ball before a high ball into the square from Mark Kelly found the net while Paul Gallogley pointed a free kick. This was to be the hosts most profitable period in the entire contest as their quickfire 1-2 stung Belcoo into action again.
Ronan Meehan landed a great point from the right wing before the visitors netted their only goal of the game on 19minutes as Holleran slipped in Aidan McGrath to shoot low into the corner as Belcoo now led 1-5 to 1-2. Holleran was having a fine game for Belcoo and he again provided the assist for Gary Maguire to point another score while Doran did likewise at the other end.
As the interval approached Belcoo remained on top, Gerard Mellor was winning midfield while Dean McDermott was going well in defence and again Martin Corrigan was producing another excellent display. By the break Belcoo had extended their lead further, Ian Corrigan struck the crossbar going for goal but was fit to gather the rebound to register a point while Maguire was on target from another placed kick to give Belcoo a 1-8 to 1-3 half time lead.
The second period was extremely one sided as Belcoo outscored their opponents ten points to two. Seamus Conlon was introduced along with debutant Eoin Gallagher at the break and Conlon's first act was to pick out Aidan McGrath with a crossfield ball, McGrath fed Ian Corrigan who split the posts from close range. Belcoo were winning all sectors of the field and when Martin Corrigan turned over an Ederney attack he broke forward and found Gary Maguire who duly landed another good point from the right side.
Aaron Dolan was coming more into the contest and fired over two points, the first from close range after a slipped pass from Holleran before ending a neat move with a score from distance. At this stage there was still 18minutes to play and Belcoo now led 1-12 to 1-3.

Aaron McNabb stemmed the tide momentarily and a fine block from Shane McAloon kept out a goalbound effort but Belcoo would soon be scoring again. A short free from Holleran was popped over by Dolan while Dolan finished another good move with a point after a neat interchange between Patrick Burns and Gary Maguire.
Burns would then knock over two free kicks, the second some 50yards from goal. Sandwiched in between was the dismissal of Seamus Conlon 8minutes from time although it didn't detear the vistiors as further scores from Dolan and Maguire were answered by a consolation effort from Gallogley. Full Time St. Joseph's 1-5, Belcoo 1-18.
