Juniors Record Big Win In Brookeboro
May. 26, 2013
ERNE CUP DIVISION 2: Brookeboro 2-4 v 4-15 Belcoo
Belcoo Juniors avenged their opening day seven point defeat to Brookeboro by winning the return fixture by 17points on Sunday afternoon with a 4-15 to 2-4 victory. It was all too easy for the O'Rahilly's in the first half and by the interval a commanding 4-6 to 0-2 lead was established and the outcome of the contest never looked in any doubt from here on. This is a third straight win for Belcoo who have turned around a poor start to the season to get themselves back in the promotion race.
Brookeboro led momentarily after Damian Moane fired over what was the best score of the game from the right sideline in the first minute but Belcoo would soon begin their scoring as Gary Maguire registered a free kick before Ian Corrigan pointed from the right and by the 8th minute the visitors had their frst goal.
Corrigan, who was the provider for several of Belcoo's scores, released Gary Maguire with a reverse handpass and Maguire tucked the ball into the bottom corner soccer style. Brookeboro corner forward Kieran Rooney did manage to pull a point back from a free kick but he only lasted another 5minutes on the field as an off the ball incident seen the forward red carded for striking Belcoo's Stephen Nolan.
In between Rooney's point and indecresion Belcoo had rattled a second goal. Aidan Leonard's kickout cleared midfield and Aidan McGrath gathered possession, he fed the on-rushing Declan Leonard who rifled in superb shot into the roof of the net beyond Martin Creighan and with 13minutes played Belcoo were 2-2 to 0-2 ahead and with a man advantage.
It was all one way traffic over the final quarter of the opening half. Damien Holleran hit two quick points before Aaron Dolan knocked over a long distance point after Darragh Timoney picked up a good break ball.
A third goal for Belcoo arrived on 19minutes after a slick move involving Corrigan and Maguire which ended with Dolan burying the ball into the roof of the net from close range to leave it 3-4 to 0-2. In the final ten minutes of the half Holleran tapped over a close range free kick before Dolan netted a fourth goal after Darragh Timoney fastened onto a loose ball and slipped it to the attacker. Half Time: Brookeborough 0-2 v 4-6 Belcoo.
The second period was much more error ridden, with the game and points secured Belcoo were rather complacence and lathargic throughout. Aaron Dolan did register the first score of the half within 30seconds off the restart after Holleran intercepted a ball out of the defence. Dean McDermott got forward from wing back to collect an Aidan McGrath pass to increase the lead further but Damian Moane hit a Brookeborough goal at the other end.
Ronan Meehan pointed for Belcoo after some fine work from the impressive Martin Corrigan however Conor Howell cancelled this score with a pointed free. Belcoo's Martin Corrigan again produced another surging run from defence to find Gary Maguire for a point but Howell again knocked over a free to leave it 4-10 to 1-4 with ten minutes to play.
Dean McDermott got his second score of the half but a defensive mistake by Declan Leonard gifted the hosts a goal. Leonard however atoned for his error within a minute, kicking a good score while substitute Siemi Rafferty, Gary Maguire and Aaron Dolan all added points before the finish in what was a comfortable win for Belcoo.
