Juniors Winning Run Continues
Jun. 8, 2013
ERNE CUP DIVISION 2 : Maguiresbridge 1-4 v 3-12 Belcoo
Belcoo Juniors made it five wins in a row with a victory in Maguiresbridge on a splendid Saturday evening. The O'Rahilly's dominated the encounter throughout but were wasteful at times and it wasn't until the final ten minutes where they pushed on to win handsomely on a 3-12 to 1-4 scoreline.
In the opening half scores were at a premium, Belcoo missing the target on several occasions from great positions and should have led by more that six points at the break. Maguiresbridge opened the scoring on 2minutes when Adam Carters drove through to fire over from close range.
The visitors worked their first score on 5minutes when a slick move involving Ronan Meehan, Aidan McGrath, and Gary Maguire ended with Ian Corrigan pointing. From the resulting kickout Jack O'Dolan picked up the break ball, slipped it to Dean McDermott and he in turn found Damien Holleran to knock over a point.
Belcoo would register their first goal with their next meaningful attack on 9minutes when Jack O'Dolan confidently fired a low shot into the bottom corner from 15yards. Unbelievable Belcoo wouldn't score again until added time in the half.
Having controlled the lion share of possession with Gerard Mellor, Seimi Rafferty, Barry McGovern and Aidan McGrath swooping on several loose balls around the middle, the visitors had some enterprising passages of play which carved open the Maguiresbridge defence however the O'Rahillys were frustrated by their final pass and wayward shooting which enabled the hosts to remain in the contest as they knocked over two free kicks on 15 and 23 minutes.
Damien Holleran and Gary Maguire both missed good goalscoring opportunities with the latter seeing a shot rebound to safety via the post. The 20minute scoring drought from Belcoo was eventually broken in stoppage time as Aidan McGrath netted another Belcoo goal finishing off an impressive move with a neat strike. There was time for Aaron Dolan to fire over a good point in the next attack to give his side a 2-3 to 0-3 half time lead.
Belcoo extended their advantage with a strong start to the half as Gary Maguire, Damien Holleran (2) and Aaron Dolan had all registered scores before Ryan Gavin got a goal for the hosts to bring them back within seven points, trailing 2-7 to 1-3.
Dean McDermott and Carters traded points before Belcoo completed took over the contest to finish big winners. Damien Holleran, substitute Kieran Conlon and Jack O'Dolan all added well taken points before Conlon created goal number three which Holleran palmed into the net from close range. With the last act of the game Conlon added another point for a 3-12 to 1-4 victory.
