Juniors Remain in Division 1
Oct. 17, 2009
The Juniors secured division one status for another season following a 3-14 to 1-9 victory over Derrylin in Kinawley on Saturday night.
A tight first half seen the sides go into the break at 1-5 a piece. John Carrigan scored a point from a free and a point from play before corner back Ryan McGovern and wing half back Niall Cullen fired over points. Belcoo's goal came from Ian Corrigan following an excellent 40 yard pass by Aidan McGrath. Ian took it in chest, turned and slipped it past the on-rushing goalkeeper. Sean McNulty got the last score of the first half.
It took Belcoo 8minutes to score in the second half, the goal came from the penalty spot, half time substitute Nevan Higgins was fouled and John Carrigan duly dispatched the penalty. Our next score was to be another goal. Ian Corrigan got his second of the night following a good run and shot.
In the last 15 minutes Belcoo scored a number of points. Nevan Higgins kicked 4points while John Carrigan registered another two. Aidan McGrath, Sean McNulty and Patrick Burns registered late scores which in the end made the game a relatively easy victory.
The Juniors has now ended for the year with Division 1 football secured for another season.
