14 Man Kinawley Win By Three
Jul. 18, 2013
SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 1: Kinawley 0-12 v 0-9 Belcoo
Belcoo slumped to a three point loss in Kinawley on Wednesday upon their return to league action after a lengthy lay off going down by a score of 0-12 to 0-9. The O’Rahilly’s had the benefit of an extra man for the majority of the contest after Tomas Corrigan was red carded midway through the first period for striking. Corrigan however had already damage done on the scoreboard, accounting for half of his side opening 6points as they raced into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead.
Despite their labouring efforts Belcoo couldn’t claw their way back from this slow start and Kinawley were fit to add more points at sporadic times to keep their opposition at a distance.
The fast starting Brian Boru’s had seen Corrrigan, Sean Leonard, Shea Keenan and Shaun Doherty all point from play while Corrigan had added two frees with Belcoo sole response coming from Ronan Ferguson.

Following Corrigan’s dismissal Belcoo landed the next score from a strong run and finish by Jonathan Feeley but Matthew Drumm knocked over a fierce point from play. Shane McCabe arrowed over a left footed effort but Doherty responded before Patrick Burns finished a move late in the half to see the half time score 0-8 in 0-4 in Kinawley’s favour.
Belcoo had carved out a goal chance in that period when Declan Leonard got through only for Darren Boyle to deny him in the home goals.
Early chances when a begging for Belcoo as they failed to convert a number of opportunities into scores while at the other end Shaun Doherty clipped over two close range free kicks. With the O’Rahilly’s making hard work of getting scores Shane McCabe did raise the white flag before Patrick Burns and Jonathan Feeley added frees.

Whilst in the ascendancy in the second half Kinawley should have killed the game off. McManus was left unmarked 20yards from goal and having received possession he should have done better, a tame effort when clean through on goal struck the buck of the post but a free was awarded in the same attack moments later and Doherty again had the simplest of scores.
A late close range point from a free by McCabe was all Belcoo could muster as three points separated the side at the finish.
