SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 1: Belcoo 1-11 v 2-12 Erne Gaels

A second league defeat in four days has left Belcoo Seniors in a precarious position at the foot of the Division 1 league table. Erne Gaels came away from MacNean Park with a four point success after a 2-12 to 1-11 success on a sizzling hot evening Saturday evening.

Belcoo had the better of the first period but would trail by a point at the interval after Ronan Cox netted on the stroke of half time to give his side a 1-4 to 0-6 lead. The hosts made the early running and Shane McCabe had a sight at goal in their first meaningful attack after Stephen Maguire and Ronan Ferguson had combined to release him however he blazed his shot over the bar for the first score of the tie.  Brian Cox coming out of defence during the first period, he wouldn't return for the second half due to a hamstring complaint. Damian Lyons who was lively in the first period hit his sides first score from the left wing before Jonathan Feeley pointed from distance while Stephen Maguire knocked over a free kick. Shain Gallagher was next to register for Belcoo after a strong forward run but Ryan Lyons responded with a close range free and added a point from play moments later to reduce the deceit midway through the half, 0-4 to 0-3.

James McGrath would venture forward from goals to clip over a neat 45 while Patrick Burns landed a point from play but it was the visitors who ended the half strongly. Damian Lyons registering his second point from the half via the inside of the post before his side struck for goal. Mark Lyons picked up possession in midfield and advanced forward  where he slipped the ball to Ronan Cox to fire into the net.

Belcoo however began the second period well, Feeley was on target early and although Seamus Ryder registered at the other end Belcoo would net a goal on 38minutes to lead. Shane McCabe's ball into Kieran Leonard seen the winger beat Stephen Ryder to the bouncing ball and Leonard's touch was enough to force the ball over into the net. 1-7 to 1-5 Belcoo now led.

This lead was only a momentary advantage, Ryan Lyons knocked over a 45 before netting a goal having punched an underhit Mark Lyons shot into the net having squeezed between James McGrath and Niall Leonard.

Back into the lead now 2-6 to 1-7 ahead Erne Gaels were fit to keep a few points ahead for the remainder of the contest. Belcoo were not fit to draw level during the closing quarter and although they carved out a number of goal chances they failed to take any.
