Mar. 15, 2014
U14s: Belcoo 13-16 v 1-3 Enniskillen Gaels
Belcoo U14s completed a third comprehensive league win from their three outings to date as they seen off Enniskillen Gaels on a score of 13-16 to 1-3.
On a blustery Saturday morning at the MacNean venue the hosts played against a strong breeze in the first half but held a 6-8 to 0-2 interval lead.
The scoring began within a minute as the excellent Damina McElgunn drilled to the net before Conor McAloon added his sides first point after good play from Lawrence McKeown. Ciaran Flanagan was net to register a goal as the young O’Rahilly’s made a bright start to the contest.
The hosts would continue to dominate throughout and following some impressive defending from Oisin McGrath and Ronan Maguire, a quick counter attack see Oran McCann bag his first goal while Dermot Burns pointed following some neat interplay between McElgunn and McKeown.
Conor McAloon would fire in a quick 1-1 before Enniskillen Gaels landed their first score to make it 4-3 to 0-1 after 20minutes. Points from Burns and McElgunn set Belcoo on their way again but the visitors were awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute. Cormac McHugh in the Belcoo goals saved the tame spot kick.
Enniskillen would add a second point before the interval but with Matthew Mulvey and Oisin O’Loughlin steady presences in defence the hosts were fit to continue pressing forward and having missed some good chances, Ciaran Flanagan did manage to add to his tally with a late goal and point while Conor McAloon landed two good points from play and Oran McCann grabbed another goal.
Things continued to follow a similar pattern in the second period. Conor McAloon and Oran McCann had kicked early points before McCann bagged his third goal. The hardworking Fiachra McAloon also landed a good score with Conor McAloon also pointing by the 40minute mark.
Enniskillen Gaels did manage to conjure up a goal to bring the score to 7-12 to 1-2 but Belcoo continued to hold the upper hand in most sectors of the field. Conor McAloon knocked over a fine point from the wing before substitute Mark Ferguson was brought down in the penalty area. Lawrence McKeown made no mistake from the spot, tucking the ball into the bottom corner.
Oisin McGrath was next to add his name to the scoresheet, the defender joined the attack to land a point from distance before Ciaran Flanagan hit a quickfire 1-1. Second half substitutes Oisin Leonard and Mark Ferguson would both find the net before Flanagan again bagged 1-1 in as many minutes. Mark Ferguson completed a good all round team display with another goal.
