Belcoo booked their place in the Championship decider during a rampant opening 20minutes which seen the young O’Rahilly’s hit 8-7 to just 1-1 from St.Pat’s. Belcoo would make a raft of changes before the break with enabled the remainder of the tie to be a much more evenly matched tie.
Ciaran Flanagan hit six goals before being replaced while Shane Doherty and Damian McElgunn who were prominent figures early on also made way.
Others on target during a productive opening period included Conor McAloon, Oran McCann and Dermot Burns. Substitute Mark Ferguson marked his entrance with a drilled point while Emmet McGuinness ventured forward from corner back to knock over a good point. There was workmanlike displays from Fiachra McAloon, Oisin Leonard and Ronan Maguire during a first period controlled by Belcoo as they led 10-9 to 2-3.
The second half would see St. Pat’s dominate for long periods as the young O’Rahilly’s struggled to clear their lines while goalkeeper Dara Flanagan was having a busier time of it trying to keep out waves of Donagh attacks.
Midway through the half Belcoo steadied themselves to finish the tie the stronger. Substitute Gerry Nolan, one of the smallest players on the field, punched a high ball into the net as Damian McElgunn and Ciaran Flanagan returned to the field to net goals in place of Conor McAloon and Oran McCann.
Solid displays over the course of the hour from Ronan Maguire, Matthew Mulvey and Oisin McGrath helped Belcoo in the final where they will come up against a physically strong Teemore, who have been playing higher level football throughout the season.
It will be the biggest test this Belcoo side will face to date but one they are capable of winning. Training continues Monday 16th June at 7pm.
