Seniors Draw At Home to Roslea
Jul. 13, 2014
SENIORS: Belcoo 2-10 v 2-10 Roslea
Roslea would land two late points to take a share of the spoils from Belcoo on Sunday afternoon. James Sherry pointing the last score in what was an intense and fiercely competitive tie played at a fast pace throughout.
The visitors had the elements in their favour during the first period and held a 1-7 to 1-4 lead, Belcoo having coughed up a soft goal nearing half time, the difference at the break.
A sharp opening five minutes seen both defences on top until Barry McGovern opened the scoring with a good point from the right wing. Seamus Quigley would stroke a 45 over the bar to give his side an opening score and by the midway stage of the half Roslea would lead 0-4 to 0-3.

Two Quigley frees and a Peter Lynch point from play for the visitors while Niall McGovern and John Carrigan had both registered for Belcoo. The next score of the tie would be a goal for the hosts, a patience build up down the left ended when Shane McCabe broke free and moved in from the wing where he played a great crossfield ball to Brian Cox 13yards from goal, Cox making no mistake with a composed finish.
Roslea would hit back with another Seamus Quigley free kick while Ryan Leonard responded from distance having ventured forward from corner back. Roslea though ended the half well with Niall Cosgrove and Sean Quigley pointing before Seamus Quigley scored a goal having cut out a short kickout by James McGrath, returning the ball over the stranded keeper’s head to give his side a three point interval lead.

Belcoo began the second period well, Paul McGrath creating an opening for Jonathan Feeley to point from the left while Declan Leonard and Niall McGovern combined down the right for the latter to score.
Roslea though would be awarded a penalty when Niall Cosgrove was upended by Christopher Leonard and Sean Quigley dispatched the spot kick into the bottom left corner to give his side a 2-7 to 1-6 lead. The visitors almost struck a third goal as the lively Cosgrove broke through but James McGrath made a fine save one on one to keep out the attacker.
It was end to end stuff with the Belcoo defence doing exceptionally well to restrict Roslea’s efforts at goal over the closing 15minutes while at the other end Shane McCabe pointed before John Carrigan fisted a loose ball into the net, a high ball into the square by Feeley seen McGrath, Carrigan and two Roslea defenders all compete for the ball with Carrigan quickest to react and fist the bouncing ball into the net.
Jonathan Feeley would add a free to give Belcoo the lead for the first time in the half, 2-8 to 2-7. Seamus Quigley though restored parity but a Ciaran Flaherty free kick and a Shane McCabe point from play had Belcoo two to the good with five minutes to play.
The hosts carved out a good goal chance after Shane McCabe and Paul McGrath combined to set Feeley up, the forward effort at goal drifting agonisingly wide with the Roslea keeper in no mans land.
Roslea though mustered up a point to half the deficit and James Sherry took a number of one two’s before drilling over from 25yards what proved the leveller in a game neither side probably deserved to lose.
Up next Belcoo travel to Tempo on Saturday evening while Roslea host Devenish. The Shamrocks remain to of the league on 16points while Belcoo are in a three way tie in fourth on 12points after 12 games.
