U12s Make Winning Start in Brookeboro

UNDER 12s: Brookeboro 1-6 v 7-17 Belcoo

Belcoo u12s made a winning start to their league campaign on an extremely warm Wednesday evening running out winners 7-17 to 1-6. Four quarters of 15minutes were played with goals at this level counting for 2pts instead of 3 at other grades.

The young O'Rahillys produced fine displays all over the field and by the end of quarter 1, they led 2-3 to 1-2. Lawrence McKeown had rattled an early goal and point while the lively Josh Killilea danced round the Brookeboro keeper to finish a neat move with Arlene Furey and Oran McCann accounting for other scores.

The second quarter seen goalkeeper Jamie Ray produce some wonderful saves, four or five certain goals were kept out while at the other end Belcoo added 3-3 to their tally. Oran McCann with two quick goals while Lawrence McKeown again found the net and knocked over two good points from play. Liam McAlliskey also split the posts from distance in the period which seen Belcoo move 5-6 to 1-4 ahead by the end of quarter 2.

The third quarter seen Brookeboro fail to score. Some excellent defending from the impressive pair of Oisin O'Loughlin and Niamh McAloon keeping out the hosts while Josh Killilea continued to use the ball well up front as did Ciana McGrath. In this quarter Oran McCann, Emmet McGuinness and Conor McKeown pointed for Belcoo.

The visitors remained in control during the last period outscoring their opponents 2-8 to 0-2. Arlene Furey confidently tucked away a well taken goal while Emmet McGuinness got forward to register 1-3. Josh Killilea fisted a point with Lawrence McKeown adding two more before Niamh McAloon and Aine Barrett knocked over good points as Belcoo ran out winners.

Elsewhere, Hugh Kelly, Patrick Martin, Ben McNulty, Stephen Kelly, Sean Boylan, Cian White, Jack Greene, Daniel O'Connor and Caitli McAlliskey put up a good showing against a strong Brookeboro side. Trailing by a point after quarter one, Belcoo tired near the end allowing Brookeboro come out on top.

Up next is two games with St. Pat's on Sunday at 12noon. Training continues on Friday at 7pm.
