U12s Make It Two Wins From Two
Aug. 1, 2014
U12s: Tempo 4-8 v 8-18 Belcoo
Belcoo U12 made it two wins from two as they got the better of Tempo in the final quarter to record a 8-18 to 4-8 victory. It was the hosts who made the brighter opening but at the end of each quarter the O’Rahilly’s had their noses in front.
Tempo netted within ten seconds when a high ball into the area deceived Jamie Ray in the Belcoo goals. Belcoo hit back Lawrence McKeown and Arlene Furey both pointing but Niall Fee, who was Tempo’s liveliest player, split the posts with a good score to restore Tempo’s lead on 5minutes.
Belcoo though would register three points in a row as Lawrence McKeown hit two and Oran McCann also added a neat point on 12minutes. As the first interval approached Belcoo found a goal, a slick move ended with Josh Killilea drilling a fine shot past Aaron Cassidy to leave it 1-5 to 1-1 at the changeover.
Tempo would once again register a goal from the throw up, a well worked move seen Fee fire past Ray. With the O’Rahilly’s coming under pressure Oisin O’Loughlin, who was immense throughout, was holding things together at the back alongside Ciana McGrath, Conor McKeown and Niamh McAloon who were remaining solid and winning their own battles.
Up front the O’Rahillys responded to the goal with points from Oran McCann, Emmet McGuinness, Dara Flanagan and Lawrence McKeown. Tempo’s Niall Fee added to his account with three points in a row before the hosts netted a third goal from a long range Brendan Cassidy effort for 1-9 (12) to 3-4 (10).
Belcoo would again finish the half strongly to hold a half time lead of 3-12 to 3-5. Dara Flanagan and Oran McCann pondering goals from close range while Lawrence McKeown fired over a wonderful effort from distance with Flanagan also arrowing over a fine shot.
Into a tight third quarter and it took some 10minutes for either side to register a score as both defences took charge, O’Loughlin and McGrath continued to do very well at the back for Belcoo with substitute Patrick Martin also impressing.
The first score of the period was a goal for the hardworking Arlene Furey on 40minutes which was swiftly followed a Josh Killilea goal, the tricky forward, sliding past a few tackles before slotting the ball into the net. Tempo though would hit a goal at the other end while Lawrence McKeown added a point to move Belcoo into a 10point lead by the end of the third quarter, 5-13 (23) to 4-5 (13).
Belcoo would control the last quarter as Lawrence McKeown hit three points, the first, the score of the night from near the left sideline. Dara Flanagan added 1-1 with the goal coming from a clever flick into the net. Oran McCann would hit two goals in this period, the first a fisted effort from close range while the second was a piledriver from distance. McCann would also land a point as Belcoo held Tempo to just three points in this quarter to seal a 8-18 (34) to 4-8 (16).
