U12s Suffer First Loss To Strong St. Pat's Side
Aug. 7, 2014
U12s: Belcoo 2-7 v 2-17 St. Pat's
Belcoo U12s suffered a first defeat of the year at the hands of a strong St. Pat’s side going down 2-17 to 2-7. It was the final quarter where the visiting Donagh side pressed on and outscored Belcoo by 0-8 to 1-0 to seal the win.
A tight game was anticipated and it played out that way during the first quarter which yielded just five scores. St. Pat’s holding a 0-4 to 0-1 advantage. Eimhinn Curran knocking over two good points with Dara Foster and a Ryan McElroy free accounting for the other scores. Lawrence McKeown would register Belcoo's sole point on 12minutes.

The second quarter was another tight affair but St. Pat’s were that bit sharper to the loose ball and increased their lead to four from Curran. Josh Killilea would finish a neat move with a well taken point which Lawrence McKeown quickly followed from distance before a fortunate goal from St. Pat’s restored their advantage to four once more.
Belcoo would lose Arlene Furey to a wrist injury during this quarter and it was still St. Pat’s who looked the more assured. Emmet McGuinness was working tirelessly for Belcoo, making a number of impressive blocks to keep his opposite number from scoring. At Half time the visitors held a 1-6 to 0-3 lead.
The third quarter seen both sides register 1-4 as Belcoo began to play some better football. Lawrence McKeown was again the marksman kicking three points with Gerry Nolan adding another from close range and Emmet McGuinness was on hand to plunder the ball into the net.

St Pat’s though were fit to keep Belcoo at arms length throughout. A few ricochets of the ball seen Ryan McElroy nip in to score a second goal, the shot taking a big deflection and deceiving Jamie Ray. Points were added by McElroy (2) and Patrick Treacy. 2-10 to 1-7 going into the final quarter.
It was from here that St. Pat’s took control, hitting eight points with Belcoo’s sole reply a Josh Killilea goal. Eimhinn Curran knocked over four points with Jason Grew and Dara Foster also on target.
Belcoo face Maguiresbridge on Sunday at 12. Players should be at the pitch for 11.30am. There will be two games.
