Seniors Well Beaten In Garrison

SENIORS: Devenish 2-12 v 1-8 Belcoo

Devenish’s fine run of form continued with a comfortable win over Belcoo at the Garrison venue on Sunday. The hosts completing the league double over Belcoo with a 2-12 to 1-8 victory.

The foundations for the win were built in the opening minutes as the hosts hit two early goals which seen them into a 2-8 to 1-2 interval lead. Devenish were to play with the wind in the first half and their first effort at goal was a free tapped over by John O’Flanagan. A three pointer followed when Terry O’Flanagan fisted a high ball into the net and two more free’s from his brother John seen Devenish into a six point lead after 10minutes.

Belcoo hadn’t crossed the halfway line as Deevenish were holding the upperhand around the middle and winning all the break ball, this was a feature throughout the tie.

Belcoo’s first foray forward was from a turnover, Niall McGovern found Christopher Leonard in the clear, Leonard shifted the ball to Paul McGrath who’s shot was saved by the feet of Paul Murphy but John Carrigan was on hand to scoop up the loose ball and drill into the corner of the net.

Darren Brady and Philip Leonard exchanged points before Devenish registered their second goal. An angled pass from Terry O’Flanagan found Chris O’Brien unmarked and he rifled the ball into the back of the net.

Coming to half time Belcoo were awarded a penalty when Christopher Leonard was brought down by Martin O’Brien. James McGrath, who scored one last weekend, fired wide on this occasion. Jonathan Feeley would point a free for Belcoo but Devenish furthered their tally with John O’Flanagan, Darren Brady and Terry O’Flanagan on target.

Devenish would register the first two points of the second half against the breeze to extend their advantage to eleven points, 2-10 to 1-2 with JJ O’Brien and Jason Love getting points.

Belcoo never threatened to stage any fightback and began knocking over points from distance to keep things respectable. Jonathan Feeley would hit three while Philip Leonard knocked over two good effort and John Carrigan drilled over late on as the O’Rahilly’s slumped to a 2-12 to 1-8 defeat.
