Seniors Open With Win Over Tempo
Apr. 12, 2015
SENIOR LEAGUE: Belcoo 1-7 v 0-7 Tempo
Belcoo Seniors made a winning start to their league campaign with a performance of pure hard work, grit and determination as they battled their way to a three point success against Tempo, recording a 1-7 to 0-7 victory.
The O’Rahilly’s had the wind in their favour and have established a five point half time lead, 0-6 to 0-1 before holding Tempo at bay in the second half while a Matthew McAloon goal with 7minutes remaining ensured the hosts had enough in hand to see out the game.

From the first whistle Belcoo were up and at it, a free within 20seconds was quickly taken by Shane McCabe to Ciaran Flaherty and he charged through the middle to score from distance. James McGrath was hauled down 15yards from goal, Jonathan Feeley clipping over the resulting free.
The hosts were defending well, Barry McGovern and Shane McCabe turning over possession on a number of occasions and it was a combination of this pair that set Belcoo on their way to their next score, McCabe dispossessing Damian Kelly, Barry McGovern picked up the loose ball and fed Flaherty who drove forward and split the posts from long range.

Belcoo continues to press hard and another slick move ended with Paul McGrath pointing from the right wing to make it 0-4 to no score midway through the half. Tempo did register their only score of the half from a Ryan Keenan free. The visitors had other opportunities but wayward shooting and a stiff wind in their faces prevented them adding to their tally.
Over the final few minutes of the half Belcoo added two more points. Jonathan Feeley firing over a fine effort from the right side while Paul McGrath pointed a 40metre free to leave it a five point game at half time.

Upon the restart Shane McCabe made a wonderful forward run all of 60yards before slipping the ball to Feeley who fired over. From this point Belcoo set about defending what they had. They pressured Tempo into shooting from range, again the visitors were wayward. Ryan Keenan would add two free kicks, Ryan McGovern black carded for one offence.

Damian Kelly would land two long range scores to reduce the deficit to two points, 0-7 to 0-5. Belcoo would however register the games only goal. A well worked move down the right side of the field after a very patience build up ended with Matthew McAloon cutting in from the left and his dipping shot crept under the crossbar for boost Belcoo five clear.
The O’Rahilly’s kept the ball well in the closing stages, Ryan Keenan would kick two more late free but Belcoo were deserving winners on the day.
Next Sunday they travel to Lisnaskea for a 3.30pm throw in.
