Juniors Win High Scoring Encounter
May. 13, 2015
JUNIORS: Belcoo 5-13 v 1-12 Brookeboro
Belcoo Juniors began a busy schedule of games with a 5-13 to 1-12 victory over Brookeboro on Thursday evening. The O'Rahilly's were on top from the outset and despite a wobble before half time, they gathered themselves to run out handsome winners in second half.
The hosts were quickly into their stride, Philip Leonard and the returning Emmet Scollan combining to set Aaron Dolan up the opening point before Dolan ran half the field unchallenged to add his second moments later.
Goal number one of the half dozen of the night arrived in the sixth minute. Aidan McGrath turned over a Brookeboro attack before a sweeping move between Scollan and Barry McGovern seen Ian Corrigan fire into the net.

The visitors would register a first point but Belcoo were still dominating, Declan Leonard and Barry McGovern getting on plenty of ball in the middle third and another good move seen Gary Doherty release Ian Corrigan to add another point, 1-3 to 0-1 after 10minutes.
Sean Breen would kick the first of three 45’s in the half for Brookeboro but Belcoo would rattle the net for a second time with 13minute played. Declan Leonard and Barry McGovern doing well again in the middle to create an opening for Gary Doherty, his shot at goal was beaten away by the goalkeeper but Aaron Dolan was on hand to score the rebound. Dolan added a free and with 16minutes on the clock it was 2-4 to 0-2.

Brookeboro rallied, they were playing with a stiff breeze but hadn’t used it in the first quarter. Daniel Ray made an excellent save to deny a goal, Sean Breen though kicked the 45 and from here to the end of the half Brookeboro took complete control as they hit seven points in a row to leave just one between the sides at the interval, 2-4 to 0-9. Frank Greene and Sean Breen accounting for the bulk of the scores.
With stern words spoken at the interval no doubt, Belcoo reappeared a different side and in the first ten minutes of the second half they had scored 2-5 without the visitors getting a score as they moved 4-9 to 0-9.
Gary Doherty, making a first start at Junior level was involved with the first two scores, winning a free which Aaron Dolan converted before fielding a high ball and slipping it to Philip Leonard on the loop to score. From the kickout Emmet Scollan caught it clean and slipped Aaron Dolan through for a point before a shot from Scollan rebounded off the post for Philip Leonard to point. Four in as many minutes for the fast starting O’Rahilly’s.

Declan Leonard would then pick Gary Doherty out with a great pass, Doherty’s hands were equally impressive, the young forward gathering the high ball and tapping over the bar.
Goals three and four were on there way next, Ian Corrigan netting a second after Scollan and Dolan done well again before Scollan netted the goal of the night, a top corner effort from the left wing. Doherty’s crossfield ball to Philip Leonard in the build up cutting open the Brookeboro defence.
There was a lull in proceedings before Brookeboro registered their goal. Martin Corrigan taking a ball off the goal-line moments earlier, the corner back had another solid night with Aidan McGrath and Barry McGovern also showing up well. The visitors mini rivival of this goal and two points was mere consolation as Belcoo finished strongly, hitting another 1-4 before the final whistle.
