Juniors beat Tempo
Apr. 17, 2010
There was late drama in Tempo on Saturday evening as Belcoo snatched a victory to go top of the table with two wins from two games. Trailing by one points deep into stoppage time Belcoo broke up the field and Ian Corrigan stroked the ball into the corner of the net to seal a 3-6 to 2-7 victory.
In the opening half both sides scored 1-5 with Gavin Leonard scoring 4 of Belcoo's points from play. Mark McGovern got our other point while Patrick Burns found the net after collecting the ball 40yards from goal and running in to fire low under the impressive Matthew Jackson in the Tempo goal.
Scores were hard to come by for both sides in the 2nd period and it took Belcoo 17minutes to register their first score of the half through a Patrick Burns free kick. As the game approached the last 5 minutes Tempo lead 2-6 to 1-6 but substitute Ryan McGovern then scored a equalising goal when his shot hit the underside of the bar and bounced over the line.
Brian Jackson kicked a free to put Tempo one point up as the game moved into added time. However, with Tempo were keeping possesion well and playing the clock down Belcoo's Gerard Mellor won back the ball on his own 21 yard line, a quick transfer of the ball between Eoin Leonard and Stephen Nolan seen Aidan McGrath collect the ball and play a pin-point pass into Ian Corrigan who finished well to secure another win for Belcoo.
