U14s Hold On To Beat Roslea
May. 14, 2015
U14's: Belcoo 3-5 v 2-4 Roslea
Belcoo U14s recorded a first win of the season as they dug deep to secure a 3-5 to 2-4 victory over Roslea in this evenings opening Divisional fixture. Some great defending and a fantastic penalty save 4minutes from time by Jamie Ray ensured the O’Rahilly’s held on to win by four points.
Having being placed in Division 4 following the Sectional games earlier in the year, Belcoo are grouped with Roslea, St. Pat's and Newtownbutler. Roslea had won all their games to date coming into this fixture but the young O’Rahilly’s were excellent in the opening half having bossed the majority of first 30minutes to lead 3-5 to 0-2. While Belcoo failed to score in the second half they worked tirelessly to keep Roslea at bay as they hung on late in the game to eek out the victory.

During the first period Belcoo played some great football, Lawrence McKeown, Oisin O’Loughlin, Josh Killilea and Oran McCann were to the fore and it was McKeown who fired over the opening point on 8minutes.
A fine full length move seen Belcoo register their first goal, Oisin O’Loughlin’s crossfield ball to Emmet McGuinness sent him away down the right wing, he in turn shifted the ball to Lawrence McKeown, who's long pass was well held by full forward Oran McCann 12yards from goal, McCann swivelling to fire to the net.

Goal number two was a carbon copy moments later, McKeown’s racking pass gather by Josh Killilea on this occasion and rifled into the net. McKeown pointed a free kick in the 18th minute as Belcoo moved 2-2 to no score ahead.
Ciaran Woods would point a free for Roslea who had missed a great goal chance when Calum Tierney fluffed his kick inside the penalty area but Belcoo would work another good score, O’Loughlin, McKeown and Killilea combining before Oran McCann landed a fine point from long distance.

Goal three was to arrive on 24minutes, Killilea winning back the ball before McCann’s clever pass released Fiachra McAloon to drive a well hit shot into the roof of the net. The O’Rahilly’s would add frees from McCann and McKeown before the interval while Darragh Clerkin pointed for Roslea. HT 3-5 to 0-2.

The second half was a whole other story. The O’Rahilly’s penned back in their half throughout. Roslea began to close the deficit. A goal from a penalty by Darragh Clerkin set them on their way, points followed at wide intervals as Belcoo were forcing the Roslea forwards to shoot under pressure.
Jamie Ray would make two good saves, the first pushing a drive around the left post, the second with his feet to deny midfielder Sean Lynam. At the other end Belcoo had a great goal chance, Emmet McGuinness releasing Oran McCann, his effort to chip to the ‘keeper drifted annoyingly wide.

Belcoo would lose centre back Oisin O’Loughlin to a black card with 11minutes to go as the Roslea onslaught continued. Oisin Leonard done well on a few occasions to clear the danger while Ray continued to do well between the sticks.
With four minutes to play Roslea were awarded a second penalty with the score at 3-5 to 2-4. Clerkin would again take the kick, he went the other way and so too did Jamie Ray, a wonderful dive to his left to beat the ball away to safety and Belcoo held out in closing minutes to win.
