Seniors Start With A Win

Box Score

Apr. 18, 2010

The Senior League began on Sunday and Belcoo played host to current league champions Roslea. It was the home side who prevailed in a high scoring encounter by 3-15 to 1-14.

Roslea started brightly and a mistake by James McGrath in the Belcoo goals allowed Ruairi McGuinness to score a goal before the same player tapped over a free kick. It took Belcoo 8 minutes to register their first score as Shane Mccabe fired over from the left wing. Kieran Leonard and Brian Cox scored points before Paul McGrath got Belcoo's first goal after his initial effort had come back of the post. More points from Ronan Ferguson and Niall Leonard seen Belcoo recover well from a bad start to lead 1-5 to 1-1 with 10minutes remaining in the 1st half.

Roslea pegged back a few scores through McGuinness, Liam Lynch and Sean Quigley before Belcoo finished with scores from Ronan Ferguson and John Carrigan to lead 1-7 to 1-5 at half time.

A great ball from Shane McCabe within seconds of the restart found Brian Cox who netted Belcoo's second goal, Paul McGrath then pointed before Roslea again registered points from dead balls. A third goal quickly followed for Belcoo as again McCabe through ball found substitute Ciaran Flaherty who fisted the ball over the on-rushing goalkeeper into the empty net.

With Belcoo leading by 3-8 to 1-8 with 15minutes to go both sides traded scores for the remainder of the game, Stephen Maguire, Ciaran Flaherty, Brian Cox, Ronan Ferguson and two Paul McGrath points ensured Belcoo finished winners by 7points.
