Important Win For Seniors
Nov. 1, 2015
SENIOR LEAGUE 1B: Belcoo 0-13 v 1-8 Tempo
Belcoo would record a much needed victory at home to Tempo in the league, despite playing 45minutes with just 14players. It was a performance of sheer hunger, desire and hard work that got the O’Rahilly’s over the line and secured a 0-13 to 1-8 win.
The attitude from the hosts on a glorious Sunday at MacNean Park in the second half in particular was first class as they battled for every ball and one another throughout. The result sees Belcoo sit top of 1B, one more win should see them safe in Division 1 for another season.

In the first half it was a pretty tight affair, Paul McGrath opened the scoring from play after an offload from Jonathan Feeley while Damian Kelly did likewise at the other end. Feeley and Ciaran Flaherty would tag on frees for Belcoo but Ryan Keenan, who had missed a few in the early minutes, began to find the target from the dead ball.
A well worked move seen Flaherty breakthrough and clip over another point for Belcoo before Seamus Conlon was dismissed for an altercation with referee Martin Higgins.
Tempo had an extra man and began to weave through the overworked Belcoo defence, Aidan Breen and Ryan Keenan hit points while Thomas Campbell and Tierney had opportunities for goals, the latter striking the crossbar.
Belcoo though were coping well and countered to score twice more before the break, Ciaran Flaherty again on the end of moves to register as Belcoo went in 0-6 to 0-5 up at half time.
Belcoo would defend extremely well in the second half and some patient build up play drew frees. Jonathan Feeley striking over two deadballs while Ciaran Flaherty hit three, two of those were from distance, one from the 45 and another from near the left sideline. Clinical place kicking from both players.
Tempo were struggling to break down the O’Rahilly’s, Keenan would hit two points but Belcoo were still working tirelessly and doing well to hold onto possession. Christopher Leonard was getting through a mountain of work with James McGrath and substitute Ryan McGovern winning dirty ball around the middle sector. The Leonard quaret and Niall McGovern forcing their opposite numbers to kick wide under pressure.
It was 0-11 to 0-7 with 8minutes to play when Paul McGrath came to the fore from wing back to kick two great scores from play, the first on the left foot before driving over a massive effort from outside the 45 on the right. These scores gave Belcoo a 6point cushion with a few minutes to play.
Ryan Bogue would land a point for Tempo before the visitors were awarded a dubious late penalty. It was scored but Belcoo had done enough to ensure they picked up a 2point win and leapfrogged Tempo in the league table.
Up next is an away game in Maguiresbridge next Sunday at 2pm.
