Ederney On Top In U14 Encounter
Mar. 12, 2016
SECTION B: Ederney 3-13 v 2-4 Belcoo
Belcoo U14s would lose for the first time this season as they suffered a 3-13 to 2-4 defeat in Ederney on Saturday afternoon. A disappointing first half showing seen the young O'Rahilly's struggle to contain an impressive Ederney outfit before making a fist of the tie in the early part of the second half. Ederney though were the better side throughout and well worth their 12point success.
A bright start from the home team seen Shane Connolly sneak in for an goal on 4minutes before Ryan Maguire took centre stage for the hosts, three great points in a five minute hoisted his side into a six point advantage.

While Belcoo stemed the flow for a few minutes Michael Moss would add another score. Belcoo had taken 22minutes to open their account. Conor McKeown, who was the O'Rahilly's best player on the day, turned over a Ederney attack and fed his brother Lawrence who in turn picked out Emmet McGuinness and he fired over a great effort.
The Ederney response was to be prolific one, 1-2 was rattled in a three minute spell with Belcoo managing to add the final score via Oran McCann after another good ball from Lawrence McKeown. Half time 2-6 to 0-2, the hosts ahead.
Oran McCann lining up a shot
Belcoo were much better after the interval, they would pen back Ederney for 10minutes with Oran McCann hitting 1-1 to cut the deficit to six, his point a terrific effort from out wide on the right. Belcoo were moving the ball better but were wayward in front of goal after this, a good effort at goal by Lawrence McKeown was kept out by a combination of defender and keeper during his spell of pressure. A goal may have tested the resolve of the hosts at this stage however Ederney took control once more. Some clinical finishing again by Ryan Maguire seen him end the day with 8points.
The hosts worked an excellent full length move to register a 3rd goal on 52minutes but Belcoo did likewise to hit back moments later. Conor McKeown and Patrick Martin doing well at the back to work the ball upfield for Emmet McGuinness to feed Eoin Corrigan, the nippy forward coolly tucked the ball into the corner, a deserved reward for his persistent showing for the ball all game.

Oran McCann would add a point from a free kick but Ederney finished with a flurry of points in the final five minutes to seal a very good display.
For Belcoo, there were improved performances in the second half but ultimately it's a first defeat, they are at home to Brookeboro next Saturday at 3pm. Training continues Monday and Wednesday at 7pm.
