Late Flurry As Belcoo U14's Record Big Win
Mar. 31, 2016
Under 14 SECTION B: Belcoo 6-16 v 1-3 Erne Gaels
A strong final 15minutes seen Belcoo Under 14's record a comfortable 6-16 to 1-3 win over Erne Gaels in the final game of Section B this evening. The O'Rahilly's held an eight point advantage at this juncture before they found their shooting boots to ease to the victory.
Pre game huddle
In the opening exchanges both sides were awarded penalty kicks inside 5minutes. By this stage the fast starting home side had hit two points, Oran McCann and Emmett McGuinness on target but with the visitors first attack Dan McCann beat Oisin O'Loughlin in a race for possession before being tripped for a penalty. Aogan Kelm dispatched the kick past Jamie Ray however Belcoo went straight up the field with Eoin Corrigan and Josh Killilea linking well before McGuinness was upended. Oran McCann confidently fired the Belcoo penalty to the net.
McCann would tag on a good point from play after a Lawrence McKeown effort struck the crossbar as the hosts took a firm grip on proceedings. Kick out after kick out was picked up by the lads in sky blue and they kept the scoreboard ticking in their favour.
Emmett McGuinness carries possession forward in the opening half
A wonderful block from Cian White seen him stop the goalkeepers clearance and gather the ball before returning it to the net. Lawrence McKeown clipped over two fine efforts from distance with Dara Flanagan advancing from half back to land a neat point as well. Captain for the night Emmett McGuinness would have a great opening period and he too registered from play.
A Dan McCann free and point from play were returned at the other end but Belcoo squandered some good opportunities to further their tally. In defence Jack Greene was looking assured while moving forward Josh Killilea, Cian White and Eoin Corrigan were all showing well and proving great outlets. Marc Stewart had linked play well at full forward to create a few of the first half scores as Belcoo went in at the interval 2-7 to 1-2 ahead.

A full 12minutes elapsed in the second period before a score was registered. Again, Belcoo were on top, Sean Boylan applying great pressure to help turn over balls while Colum Higgins came out with some good possession in the defence as some disciplined Belcoo tackling helped keep them on the front foot.
Eventually the white flag was raised by Lawrence McKeown and this sparked an avalanche of scores from the hosts as Erne Gaels couldn't turn the ball in the middle sector. Oran McCann would hit a point before Cian White won a kickout and sent McCann through on goal to fire a powerful drive to the net.

Lawrence McKeown broke in from the right to find the top corner while the scoring blitz continued. Conor McKeown, having just missed a good goal chance would knock over a close range point as did Josh Killilea with Eoin Corrigan hitting his side’s fifth goal.
Lawrence McKeown drilled over two similar points from the right with Eoin Corrigan hitting a quick fire 1-1 before Dara Flanagan rounded a good performance with the last score.

Belcoo had hit 4-9 in the space of 16minutes to push away from a spirited Erne Gaels side who never quit working as they battled to the finish. Dan McCann accounting for their sole point with two minutes remaining.
This contest has seen the sections end with Belcoo having won three and lost three although each of the six games were very competitive affairs. Training continues Monday and Wednesday next week at 7pm as all teams await the county boards decision on what division they will play in.
