Juniors Return To Winning Ways

ERNE CUP DIVISION 2: Belcoo 2-10 v 1-8 Coa
Belcoo Juniors returned to winning ways with five points to spare over Coa at MacNean Park on Friday evening. The O'Rahilly's began slowly but dominated the vast majority of the contest to hold a comfortable advantage before a late flurry of Coa's scores narrowed the winning margin.
It was the O'Dwyers who burst from the blocks and hit the opening three points inside six minutes. The pacy Gary Lynch on target twice for the visitors before Belcoo eventually got going. The home side were playing into a stiff breeze and took 16minutes to open their account. Matthew McAloon clipping over two close range frees with Aidan Leonard and Barry McGovern firing over from play. McAloon would finish the half with two more frees as Belcoo went in leading by double scores on 0-6 to 0-3.

The hosts were quick to find their feet in the second half and worked a goal inside three minute. A strong 40yard run by Dean McDermott created the opening as he fed Aidan McGrath who in turn slipped through Matthew McAloon to fire into the roof of the net. Aidan Leonard knocked over a fine effort from the left as Belcoo pushed into a sizeable lead, 1-7 to 0-3.
Coa hadn't scored from the sixth minute and would hit a first point in over 30minutes to reduce the deficit ever so slightly.
Belcoo though would power on with another well worked goal, a strong surge from Matthew McAloon cut through the Coa defence before he fisted across goal for Aidan Leonard to palm the ball into the net. Now 2-8 to 0-4 ahead, Belcoo were to allow Coa back into the contest, the visitors registering 1-3 in a matter of minutes and with five minutes to play there was just four between the sides.

Coa never conjured a goal opportunity in the closing stages which seen Matthew McAloon and James Gillespie find the target for the home side with Coa hitting a point also.
For the hosts there were good displays defensively from Shane McAloon and Brendan McPartland with Daire Keaney supplying some neat deliveries into the forward line while Gerard Mellor and Barry McGovern again controlled the middle sector.
