Enjoyable U14 Girls Challenge With Belanleck
May. 10, 2016
U14 Girls Challenge: Belcoo 3-5 v 6-13 Belnaleck
Belcoo and Belnaleck have both formed U14 girls teams in recents weeks and they met in an enjoyable challenge game on another glorious evening in MacNean Park.
There was some great football on show with excellent tackles, blocks and dispossessing of opponents over the course of the hour.
The visiting Belnaleck side were that bit bigger and stronger physically but it didn't deter the O'Rahilly's who worked tireless throughout, battling well and improving as the contest went on.

Belnaleck would hit an early 1-3 with Farah McCluskey and Shanna Cassidy on target but Belcoo had done well on occasions to thwart other dangerous opportunities as Niamh McAloon, who had an excellent hour, did well time after time to win back possession while Sam Martin, Cara Grey and Siofra McAloon nipped out in front to beat their players to the ball.
It took the O'Rahilly's 11 minutes to register, Arlene Furey knocking over from distance before a Ciana McGrath free kick found the net to leave it 1-4 to 1-1 by the midway stage of the opening half.
Belnaleck were to tag on some very well taken scores via Aisling Keenan and Shanna Cassidy before Cassidy hit the net.

Belcoo responded with Riona Keaney doing well to feed Crona Higgins who powered towards goal and hit the net. Belcoo had a few more opportunities to score having pressed up on the Belnaleck players from the kickouts.
In the final minutes of the half Belnaleck added a late goal to hold a 3-9 to 2-1 half time lead.
In the second period Belcoo grew in confidence as the half progressed, they held much more possession and worked some good moves, using the open spaces much better.
Sinead Barrett was heavily involved in linking the play while Lana Shiels in defence was brilliant, taking a few efforts off the line.

Crona Higgins would rattle the net again for the hosts before hitting a good point after Rachel Nolan had done well on the left. Mikayla Maguire was now operating out the field and worked well with Scarlett O'Connor.
Siofra McAloon and Sam Martin continue to do a sterling job at the back with Arlene Furey, Ciana McGrath, Aoife Keaney and Aine Barrett getting through a lot of work carrying the ball forward for the hosts.

Belnaleck would continue to clip over some neat points while they plundered three second half goals but Belcoo can be pleased with the first showing as a girls team.
Ciana McGrath would kick two good second half points for the O'Rahilly's who look forward to getting more games under their belt in the coming weeks. Full time Belcoo 3-5 v 6-13 Belnaleck.
We wish our neighbours all the very best for their season.
