Poor Display As Juniors Well Beaten By Kinawley
Jun. 19, 2016
Erne Cup Division 2: Belcoo 1-5 v 1-20 Kinawley
A disinterested Belcoo Junior side suffered a heavy defeat in their top of the table clash with Kinawley this morning. The visitors were a man down for some 40minutes but you would never have thought it as they cruised to a 1-20 to 1-5 success.
It was a desperately poor display from the O'Rahillys, less than a handful made any real effort over the hour with all too many standing up and watching their opposite numbers run up and down the field at will.
Martin Corrigan fends off an opponent as he gathers a loose ball
With the wind in their favour Belcoo only mustered two points in the first period, Shain Gallagher on target twice while Kinawley hit a dozen to lead by 10pts at the interval. All to often the visitors weaved forward untouched to clip over points. It could have been worse but for three smart saves early on by Daniel Ray between the sticks. Ten minutes before the interval Kinawley had a man sent off for striking but it made no difference, they continued to have men running freely, supporting and giving options. Belcoo on the other hand, failed to make any inroads going forward, errant passes, lack of options, poor decision making coupled with spills and fumbles were the order of the day.
Daire Keaney brings the ball forward in the second half
A second half played at walking pace by the hosts seen Kinawley net a goal from the throw in to kill the contest completely. The visitors continued to clip over handy points at regular intervals. Ian Corrigan would net the Belcoo goal midway through the second half with Philip Leonard (2) and Shain Gallagher adding the points.
Up next Belcoo travel to Coa on Wednesday 29th June for an 8pm throw in.
Team. Daniel Ray, Martin Corrigan, Aidan McGrath, Aidan Leonard, Dean McDermott, Seimi Rafferty, James Gillespie, Gerard Mellor, Gary Doherty, Daire Keaney, Ian Corrigan, Shain Gallagher, Gary Maguire, Kieran Conlon, Matthew McAloon.
