Battling Girls Beaten In Tempo
Jul. 13, 2016
U14 Girls: Division 3: Tempo 3-5 v 2-2 Belcoo
Belcoo U14 Girls would lose a good battle in Tempo on Wednesday evening as they went down on a 3-5 to 2-2 scoreline. The O'Rahilly's trailed by three for the last ten minutes of the contest but the goal they craved eluded them in that time before Tempo netted their third with the last kick of the game.
Belcoo never really got going during the opening half and would trail 1-4 to 1-0 at half time. Arlene Furey was to strike the O'Rahilly's goal in the 8th minute after an excellent turnover in midfield by Sinead Barrett. Scarlett O'Connor and Aine Barrett were involved in the attack before Furey got on the end of it and thumped the ball into the net.
Tempo had a point on the board at this stage through Kayleigh Bradley-West but they had been holding the upperhand as the Belcoo defence were under plenty of pressure.

Some fine defending from Cara Gray, Siofra McAloon and Niamh McAloon held the hosts out for some time but scores would begin to flow with Megan Hamilton and Cadhla Bogue (2) adding points while they also banged in a well hit goal.
Sam Martin had been showing well and winning good kickouts from Mikayla Maguire while Lana Shiels forced her opponent back out the field during this bright spell by Tempo.
The majority of the half seen Belcoo working hard in the defensive third of the field with Rachel Nolan applying good pressure and getting plenty of touches as Belcoo tried to move forward.

Belcoo were much improved after the restart, Tempo though, would net an early goal to move 2-4 to 1-0 ahead. From here to the finish Belcoo came on strong. Sinead Barrett was a constant threat driving forward in this half with Eve Barrett winning back possession having been introduced at the interval while Mikayla Maguire, now operating in the forward line, showed well and won plenty of ball.
The O'Rahilly's had their best spell midway through the half as they rattled in a quick 1-2 to cut the deficit to just two points. The visitors turned over Tempo with Eve Barrett grabbing the loose ball and winning a free. Quickly taken by Aoife Keaney, Sinead Barrett was on the run again, she found Mikayla Maguire who in turn slipped Ciana McGrath in to thump the ball to the net.

Moments later Belcoo won possession and Aoife Keaney, Arlene Furey and Sinead Barrett swiftly worked the ball forward with Ciana McGrath securing possession and hitting a fine point under pressure.
Belcoo kept on top as Sinead Barrett raced forward at pace again before finding Aine Barrett, she found Mikayla Maguire who pointed a great effort from wide on the right side.
Whilst Belcoo were going well at this time, Tempo mounted a breakaway to score a point but other moves were thwarted as Siofra McAloon, Sam Martin and Niamh McAloon all drove out from the back with the ball.
Plenty of pressure applied as Tempo look to get a score in the second half
The game was beginning to stretch as both sides tired, three down Belcoo went chasing the goal. Riona Keaney was introduced and her fresh legs allowed her to quickly break away but a well timed tackle denied the young O'Rahilly a strike at goal. Aoife Keaney was to see the Tempo keeper deny her a goal while a few attacks faltered at the final pass although Tempo must be credited for their hard work at the back to curtail Belcoo.
With seconds to play Tempo broke forward and a looping effort of a point dipped under the bar for a 6 point win.
With Irvinestown not fielding this coming Monday night, Belcoo's next game is at home to Lisnaskea, date to be confirmed.
