Bad Night For Seniors In Ederney
Jul. 16, 2016
SENIORS: Ederney 3-10 v 0-9 Belcoo
The Seniors recent good run of form came to an abrupt halt at a rain soaked Ederney on Friday night, the hosts taking advantage of an extra man for most of the second half to pull away and win comfortably on a 3-10 to 0-9 scoreline.
The entire contest was played in difficult conditions with lying water in places, a dead bounce but by the interval, both sides had served up a decent showing, 1-3 to 0-6.
Belcoo had started brightly but would rue missed chances as their first three efforts all missed the target. Matthew McAloon was to raise the white flag but his evening was short lived as he picked up what looks like a serious hamstring injury.
Ederney would level proceedings before Aaron Dolan slotted over after good work by Ciaran Flaherty and Barry McGovern did the same when Paul McGrath did well to keep the ball in play.
Ederney though were to register their first goal of the night, a poor James McGrath kickout went straight to Enda Ferris who ran in and slotted the ball to the net.
The McCusker brothers were to add points but Belcoo finished the half well. Aaron Dolan adding two points before Christopher Leonard burst forward and fed Niall Leonard who pointed a great effort from wide on the left off the left boot.
The second half was only a matter of minutes on when Ciaran Flaherty was red carded for the O'Rahilly's for an off the ball incident. To compound matters, Ederney broke upfield and Martin McGrath drilled in a goal after a powerful run with the next passage of play.
Three points down and a man down Belcoo never threatened a comeback, Ederney were fit to pick off scores all to easily during the remainder of the contest.
Declan Deazley, Martin McGrath, Paul McCusker and Darren McCusker all chipped in with points while goalkeeper Chris Snow pinged over a 45.
The hosts added their third goal as a slick exchange of hand passes opened up the Belcoo defence with Declan Deazley fisting the ball to the net in the end.
Belcoo only managed three points in the second half, Jonathan Feeley hitting a good score from play while Paul McGrath accounted for the other two, a free and a left footed effort from play after Ian Corrigan had did well.
It was a bad night all round for the O'Rahilly's who face into a home double header next weekend when the play Roslea at 7.30pm on Friday and then Devenish on Sunday at 3.30pm.
