Under 8's Enjoy Lissan Blitz
Jul. 16, 2016
A great morning was had at a well organised and relaxed County Blitz at Lissan for our Under 8’s who were lucky to get a place on the trip this morning, there will be more opportunities in the future for our other Under 8’s who missed out today.
Before the event even got under way, a target was set en route to Lissan by Jack Barrett, "win a game and we get ice cream". Good man Jack.
In the first game against Lisnaskea, Belcoo won, job done, Ice Cream secured afterwards.
Thereafter games came thick and fast with no breaks as the temperature continued to rise. In all six games were played, the initial fixture with Lisnaskea before games with Coa, Derrygonnelly, Belanaleck, Ederney and a second Derrygonnelly team.
Jack O’Connor, spent most of his time in goals, his kick outs where exceptional, as he found a ‘blue’ jersey 90% of the time.
Lily Mae McNulty never stopped working all day and her defensive skills contributed greatly to the Belcoo back line.
Matthew Whitmore and Aodhan Cullen work rate could not be questioned, both boys grew into the matches as time went on and had their finest performance in the final game. Contributing scores from play, winning kickouts, linking with the each other and Dara Nolan up front creating opportunities which allowed some fine scores from play to be taken as well as forcing a number of overcarries.
Ciara Parker, as usual was strong in every position she played, producing fine performances all over the field and helping out her team mates at all times whilst clearing the ball from the danger zone time and time again in the final encounter.
Shea Killilea, forced a number of over carries while battling very hard for every ball and he was constantly providing support for his team mates in possession.
Dara Nolan, as usual, gave a strong performance, making some crucial runs, when other players where caught up in the congested middle sector. Some intelligent runs allowed Jack O’Connor to pick him out from kickouts and like the last blitz, it was young Nolan who was the chief score-taker for the young O’Rahilly’s
Jack Barrett continued to work hard in defence, (even after the team had won the ice cream) and it was plain to see he really enjoyed himself. Sticking close to his opposite number, whilst also distracting and talking to his opponents, taking their attention of the game, a very useful man to have for his team-mates.
Rian Kennedy and Serena McKeown worked hard throughout the day applying pressure on opponents while using possession well when they got it. They are continuing to improve and have showed some of the defensive skills and techniques they’ve picked up in training.
On the day, Dara Nolan notched 2-8 with Aodan Cullen kicking six points while Ciara Parker chipped in with two good points.
