Goals The Difference As Teemore Record Senior Win

Box Score

Jul. 31, 2016

SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 1: Teemore 2-11 v 0-13 Belcoo

Two Eoin McManus goals either side of the interval were key to Teemore's win in what was an otherwise even affair on a 2-11 to 0-13 scoreline.

McManus' first came with the last kick of the first half as he intercepted a lateral handpass on the Belcoo 45 to run through and fire low into the bottom corner. The goal had gave the home side a 1-6 to 0-7 lead at the break.

Within two minutes of the restart McManus had dispatched a penalty to the net while himself and John Fitzpatrick (2) added points for 2-9 to 0-7. Belcoo to their credit battled back and they outscored Teemore six points to one over the next fifteen minutes. At 2-10 to 0-13 though there was a scoreless period of near ten minutes with the game in the balance. Teemore were wayward in front of goal while Belcoo having done well to win possession reverted to long aimless balls time and time again which were easily gathered by Teemore defenders. Teemore got their insurance score from Eoin McManus with two minutes to play to seal the four point win.

In the early part of the contest Cian McManus would open the scoring. Belcoo though responded with three in a row, Paul McGrath, Aaron Dolan and Dean McDermott on target.

Teemore would dictate the next ten minutes as they rattled over five in a row. Ciaran Fitzpatrick, Declan Drumm, John Fitzpatrick (2) and Ryan Maguire all registering for the Shamrocks for 0-6 to 0-3.

Back came Belcoo though, Paul McGrath landing two points with Barry McGovern and Jonathan Feeley also arrowing over scores as they moved a point clear coming to half time before McManus capitalised on an errant pass to net goal number one. Half time: Teemore 1-6 v 0-7 Belcoo.

The quick 1-2 blast upon the resumption left Belcoo a mountain of work to do, while they battled gamely they couldn't conjure the necessary scores required. Aaron Dolan, Jonathan Feeley and Niall Leonard were among the point takers while a long range attempt at goal by Paul McGrath was beaten away for a 45 by Declan O'Rejlly in goals, Dolan would strike over the 45 but the O'Rahilly's have now suffered three straight defeats after their mid season revival and are almost certainly going to be in the relegation playoffs at the end of the season.

Team. James McGrath, Ryan Leonard, Declan Leonard, Gavin Leonard, Stephen Nolan, Niall Leonard (0-1), Niall Cullen, Barry McGovern (0-1), Christopher Leonard, Ryan McGovern, Paul McGrath (0-3), Dean McDermott (0-1), Aaron Dolan (0-3), Ian Corrigan, Jonathan Feeley (0-4). Subs. Aidan Leonard, Brendan McPartland.
