U12s Continue Winning Run
Aug. 6, 2016
U12 Section B: Belcoo 8-18 (34) v 2-11 (15) Ederney
Belcoo overcame Ederney on a warm but windy afternoon at the O'Rahilly's venue as they recorded an 8-18 to 2-12 victory to remain unbeaten in the Sections.
Josh Killilea got the scoring underway with a first minute point after Mikayla Maguire, Niamh McAloon and Jack Greene were involved in a slick move. Ederney would tie proceeding but Eoin Corrigan knocked over a free after he was fouled with Cian White next to register a well struck left footed effort for 0-3 to 0-1.
Jack Greene was to clip over a free before a quick double goal blast sent Belcoo well clear. Cian White doing well to feed Eoin Corrigan for a low finish in a crowded goalmouth before Josh Killilea's floated ball from the right wing was fisted to the net by Cian White.
Mikayla Maguire takes possession forward
Killilea was to land a good point from distance as Ederney did likewise for a 2-5 to 0-2 score by the end of Quarter 1.
In the second quarter the game continued to ebb and flow, Ederney had the wind advantage and added an early point. Rhianne McGuinness would make a great block as Belcoo turned over Ederney and broke forward for Cian White to score. White would clip over two more before good work from Nathan McGovern and White created a goal for Jack Greene who side-stepped the goalkeeper.
Lorcan Leonard would make a fine save in the Belcoo goals although Ederney did register a two pointer in this quarter. The half ended with Jamie Ray stroking over a 45 off the ground. Half time: Belcoo 3-9 v 1-3 Ederney.
Eoin Corrigan finds the gap to net Belcoo's opening goal
Belcoo pulled further clear in quarter three as they upped the ante for a few minutes running in some good scores.
Josh Killilea registered from the throw up before driving forward and smacking the crossbar allowing Michael Burns to tap in a goal on the rebound. Burns was to net his second goal after strong play on the right by Killilea while Burns, Corrigan and Greene all added points.
Ederney were to hit four points in this period but again some stout defending from Belcoo kept them relatively quiet. Cara Gray, Niamh McAloon and Conor McKeown proving a hard line to get through.
In the final minutes of the quarter Killilea, Corrigan and the hard working Nathan McGovern added points to leave it 5-16 to 1-7.
Michael Burns drives forward in the final Quarter
During the last quarter Mikayla Maguire and Sinead Barrett got on much more ball and used it well to create scoring opportunities for their side. Michael Burns and Sean Boylan combined well for Burns to score a goal early on but it was Ederney who enjoyed their best spell, adding 1-4 in this quarter. It could well have been more but for two fine saves by Lorcan Leonard.
Belcoo though finished well, Mikayla Maguire doing very well to set Michael Burns up for a point before Jamie Ray poked in a goal from close range after more good work by the aforementioned Maguire and Burns.
Niamh McAloon drove out from the defence to release Josh Killilea who went on to chip the keeper while Burns added the final point to give Belcoo an 8-18 to 2-11 scoreline.
