Seniors Hammered At Home To Erne Gaels

Box Score

Aug. 7, 2016

SENIOR DIVISION 1: Belcoo 0-10 v 6-7 Erne Gaels

Ten seconds was all it took for goal number one as Erne Gaels simply tore Belcoo apart in the opening half as they held a 5-4 to 0-3 interval lead. Job done, points secured, game over.

The visitors never hit the same heights in the second period while Belcoo clipped over points to take the bad look of things although 6-7 to 0-10 is a tight timbering.

Having won the throw up a long ball was gathered and buried by Seamus Ryder. The big full forward added a point while Brian Mullan got forward on the right to slot over.

Ciaran Flaherty would arrow over a neat score while Paul McGrath did likewise on the left foot. Goals though were to flow at all too regular intervals. Barry McCann hitting two excellent strikes into the top left corner having seen the Belcoo defence part like the Red Sea.

Seamus Ryder was to poke home a goal from close range while Tommy McCaffrey also hit a three pointer. Barry McCann and Ryder slotted over points with Belcoo's sole response a Philip Leonard free kick as the half ended with Belleek 16points to the good.

In a uneventful second period Michael Og McGarrigle fisted a goal with McCaffrey and McCann adding points. Belcoo would register seven points in the half, Paul McGrath accounting for five of these while Aaron Dolan and Shain Gallagher also split the posts.

Belcoo will be in the relegation playoffs at the end of the season while Erne Gael will play the top four semi finals. Up next is league leaders Derrygonnelly at the Harps venue next Sunday 1pm.
