Aug. 8, 2016
U13 Girls Section A: Devenish 3-4 v 1-7 Belcoo
The Under 13 Girls League started this evening with a great battle in Garrison as the Devenish girls hit three second half goals to secure a three point win over Belcoo on a 3-4 to 1-7 scoreline.
This was a tight encounter throughout with the sides level on a number of occasions before Devenish took their goal chances in the second half to eek out the win. Belcoo would have held the bulk of the possession over the contest but found scores harder to come by.
A number of the Belcoo girls had their best performances of the year to date while others are continuing to improve game by game. It was a tough, tight and hard fought encounter on a heavy pitch but both teams threw themselves into it with the game being played at a high tempo from start to finish.

Belcoo were to fire the opening shot as Sinead Barrett seen an effort saved by the goalkeeper however the clearance only found Eve Barrett who slipped in Aine Barrett to fire over a well taken point.
Devenish's first effort was to be magnificently saved by Mikayla Maguire as she tipped the onto the underside of the crossbar before gathering and clearing to the impressive Scarlett O'Connor at wing back, the young defender was to the fore throughout the first period latching onto numerous loose balls while driving forward with possession and finding teammates.

Belcoo would add a second point via Ciana McGrath from the right side of the field before two points in sixty seconds from Chantelle Timoney tied the game at 0-2 each by the 7th minute.
Eve Barrett would do well to beat the goalkeeper in a foot race on the left wing before setting up Aine Barrett who hit the side netting with an attempt at goal. Barrett though was to add her second point on 11minutes after sister Sinead had done well to create the opening.
Rhianne McGuinness would make a trademark block in defence and in general she excelled throughout with Sam Martin and Cara Gray again winning back several balls from opponents and keeping Belcoo on top. Rachel Nolan was to forage and gather plenty of possessions at wing forward while Aoife Keaney was working hard at centre back to stop Devenish coming forward.

Belcoo had registered two wides before good work by Riona Keaney and Rachel Nolan seen the latter fouled 20metres from goal, Ciana McGrath fired over the set piece but a point by Chantelle Timoney left the half time score Belcoo 0-4 to 0-3 ahead.
Devenish begun the second half well and within two minutes they had levelled then struck goal number one to move three points clear. Timoney the goalscorer with a well taken effort giving Mikayla Maguire no chance of saving.
Belcoo were working hard, Niamh McAloon was much more involved in this half in midfield while defensively the visitors were doing well to keep the ball in the Devenish half of the field. Sinead Barrett would win a free kick which Ciana McGrath converted before Barrett added a point herself following a good solo run to reduce the deficit to just one point with 8minutes to play, 1-4 to 0-6.

Belcoo were to have a number of opportunities to level but chances were denied by good defending and on two occasions the home goalkeeper thwarted efforts with her feet.
Devenish were to break forward having been held back for a five minute spell and with just three minutes to play, they thumped in a second well worked goal to move four clear. Belcoo responded with a point from Ciana McGrath who had played a one two from a 45 with Aine Barrett.
