Seniors Exit Championship At First Hurdle
Aug. 28, 2016
Intermediate Championship: Lisnaskea 0-14 v 1-9 Belcoo
The Seniors produced a desperately disappointing hour as they exited the Intermediate Championship at the first hurdle going down 0-14 to 1-9 to Lisnaskea on Sunday evening in Tempo.
24minutes had elapsed before the O'Rahilly's raised the white flag, by this stage Lisnaskea had a half dozen points on the board, five of which came from Daniel Kille via a mix of frees and efforts from play.
A half hearted and half paced O'Rahilly's were second to everything during the opening exchanges as Lisnaskea had runners and options aplenty.
Belcoo managed to hit four points in as many minutes when they did open their account, Aaron Dolan (2), Paul McGrath and Ciaran Flaherty on target as they got back to within two but in added time at the end of the half, the Emmet's hit two more for a 0-8 to 0-4 interval lead.
Upon the resumption Lisnaskea remained in control, keeping possession well, drawing frees and adding to their tally. Belcoo needed goals and Paul McGrath seen a goalbound effort deflected narrowly wide while Ian Corrigan blazed over for a point when well placed. Ciaran Flaherty was to tag on points for the O'Rahilly's while Christopher Leonard was ordered off for a second bookable offence before Belcoo did find a goal with just minutes remaining to make it 1-8 to 0-13. Ian Corrigan driving in following a goalmouth scramble.
Points were traded in the dying moments but another goal which would have snatched a win wasn't to come as Lisnaskea retained possession well and deservely booked a date with Kinawley in the Semi Final.
Belcoo face the Loser of Enniskillen Gaels & Tempo in an Intermediate Relegation contest. Games to be played the weekend of 9th-11th September.
