Maguiresbridge Advance In U16 Championship
Aug. 30, 2016
U16 'B' Championship: Maguiresbridge 4-13 v 5-4 Belcoo
Maguiresbridge would advance in the U16 Championship on a 4-13 to 5-4 scoreline as they brushed aside another tame and error ridden hour from the O'Rahilly's who were well in the game at half time, having faced into a stiff breeze and trailing by just 4points.
Belcoo though contrived to make little headway with the wind advantage in the second period and within minutes of the restart Maguiresbridge registered two of the softest goals your likely to see to open up a 10point cushion which proved too much to overturn.
Luca McCusker was to have a fine hour for the winners and he had registered an early 1-2 which included a penalty which was blazed over for a point.

Ciaran Flanagan had a point on the board for Belcoo before Lawrence McKeown netted his first goal, Conor McAloon intercepting a pass with McKeown and Patrick Martin working a one two for the goal. McKeown rattled over a point soon after to tie the game at 1-2 each on 13minutes.
Maguiresbridge were never headed as Luca McCusker (2), Caolan Duffy and Odhran McGoldrick all added points. McKeown though was to rattle in another goal having cut in from the left wing but more points from Ciaran Duffy, Thomas McGrory and Luca McCusker had pushed Maguiresbridge into a 1-9 to 2-2 interval lead.
Belcoo would have a strong wind helping at the start of the second period, Luca McCusker would thunder a spectacular goal within a minute of the restart before Oran McCann misjudged a high ball for goal. 3-9 to 2-2 just two minutes into the half.

Belcoo broke with Lawrence McKeown drilling low to the left corner but another really soft goal kept the opposition ten ahead.
Belcoo did hold sway for the next 10minutes but just added one score. A penalty from Conor McAloon while other options, passes and decisions seen chances and opportunities come and go.
Defensively Mark Ferguson was to do well again, while Oisin Leonard and Emmett McGuinness kept taking the game to Maguiresbridge down the left. Oisin O'Loughlin had his hands full with the tricky Tommy McGrory while further forward Gerry Nolan and Patrick Martin were showing and linking play well.
A Shane Doherty goal and Lawrence McKeown point got the score back to three at 4-9 to 5-3. Maguiresbridge though finished strongly, McCusker, McGrory (2) and Duffy all finding the target with McKeown notching Belcoo's sole response.
Belcoo travel to Tempo for a League fixture on Thursday evening, throw in 7pm.
