U13's Girls Produce Excellent Display To Beat Ederney
Aug. 31, 2016
U13 Girls Section A: Ederney 0-2 v 5-10 Belcoo
Belcoo U13's Girls produced their best football of the season to record a 5-10 to 0-2 victory in Ederney this evening. The O'Rahilly's worked some great scores over the course of the contest however the success was built on a superb defensive display from start to finish.
In the early part of the tie, Ederney held the upperhand but there was some excellent defending from Rhianne McGuinness who stepped out in front, won the ball and found teammates. She was to make two great blocks early on as did Sinead Barrett while Sam Martin excelled also at full back.

Ederney were to register the opening score but Belcoo would slowly work their way into the game and were unfortunate not to score when Rachel Nolan struck the post with good effort after six minutes.
The O'Rahilly would register their first score on 8minutes as a wonderfully timed tackle from Eimear Magee turned over an Ederney attack, Belcoo broke forward at pace with Aoife Keaney carrying the ball forward before finding Eve Barrett who netted from close range.

Aoife Keaney was the standout performer in the opening half, immense at centre back, denying opponents a way forward with patient tackling whilst working hard and playing some clever passes into the forwards. A great high catch in midfield by Keaney and accurate kick pass into Eve Barrett sent the young attacker through and she buried the ball into the roof of the net.
You could see the confidence visible grow in the Belcoo girls as they got on top, Rachel Nolan and Scarlett O'Connor were showing well on the wings with Mikayla Maguire and Ciana McGrath coming into the game more in the middle sector with Aine Barrett seeing plenty of the ball moving forward from wing back.

Eve Barrett netting her third goal while Sinead Barrett landed a good point from distance having broke through a tackle with Mikayla Maguire drilling in a crisp low shot to the net for a 4-1 to 0-1 half time lead.
Belcoo were to begin the second half well with an early trio of points recorded, Ciana McGrath, Aine Barrett and Eve Barrett all splitting the posts. They continued to hold sway, penning back the hosts from kickouts as Scarlett O'Connor and Sinead Barrett done well to win back possession. Barrett's hard work yielding a point for herself while Riona Keaney, who was lively throughout, was next to find the target with a neat point.

Cara Gray came out of goals and immediately pressed, hassled and made a fine block. She was to play some wonderful passes to the wings where Scarlett O'Connor, Sinead Barrett and Rachel Nolan continued to run into the spaces and gather possession.
In the final ten minutes Ederney mounted a challenge but Mikayla Maguire was to make a magnificent save to push the ball wide of the post having moved into goals to replace Gray. Sam Martin, Rhianne McGuinness and Eimear Magee continued to stand firm at the back. Ederney did manage a second point but Belcoo finished the game on top.

Ciana McGrath thumped the ball into the net before Belcoo added two superbly worked moves for two excellent points. The first was from back to front at real pace with great first touch control the whole way up. A quickly taken Mikayla Maguire kickout picked out Aine Barrett, her ball onto Scarlett O'Connor was well held before she played a brilliant long pass to Eve Barrett who ran in and knocked over.
The next was an equally slick move, Aine Barrett involved on three occasions having played one twos with Ciana McGrath, Scarlett O'Connor and Sinead Barrett before firing over.
